Mize heads to renowned label WAKAAN for the release of his long-awaited and highly coveted Thought Process EP.
Ian Evans – more commonly known as Mize has completely taken the bass music scene by storm. Through re-envisioning the relationship between weird and wobbly bass music and 2000’s era hip-hop and trap elements, he’s carving out a new space in bass music that’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. His mixes and recent releases have garnered major praise from fans all across the world and when news dropped that he was set to land on WAKAAN with his latest EP, Thought Process, we knew we wouldn’t be disappointed.

The Thought Process EP begins with the long-awaited release of its title track.
Mize introduces the EP with a familiar bass anthem and sought-after track “Thought Process.” With light and echoed synths in the distance, he begins to incorporate mystical thematic elements, building the synths and overtaking the sound waves right before dropping us into a world of swelling all-encompassing basslines. Up next on the EP is “Shake Off.” Leading in with a fast building and energetic intro, the song utilizes the emptiness in between the synth elements to create a spacious soundscape to eventually be filled by the nastiest synth lines you’ll ever hear.
For the third track on the Thought Process EP, Mize teams up with Space Wizard to create “Mind Filth” – the looming, grimy modern weird bass anthem of the century. The warped and muted intro is complemented by a deliberate beat that crescendos into a wild ride of a drop that whips its way around your speakers and overtakes the senses.
Following “Mind Filth,” the fourth track on the EP, “Laser Focus,” has to be my all time favorite of this body of work.
The simplicity of the beat and complexity of the synth-work on “Laser Focus” creates a deeply spacious, almost otherworldly soundscape. Mize relies heavily on the percussive elements and synth flourishes he brings to the work, often expanding on these synths to bring a new flare to each bar. If ever there was a time to break out your nastiest bass face, this tune is exactly the one to listen to.
Last on the EP is “Pipeline,” another fan favorite that was rehashed on this latest work. Mize focuses heavily on hip-hop percussive elements to drive the winding synth-lines through the track. It’s spacious and invites the listener to explore the ominous yet inviting world he’s created. By incorporating transcendental flourishes and complex elements, the track effortlessly builds off of each theme to deliver a full-bodied work of art that meticulously pulls together the end of our musical journey.
As a long time Mize fan, this new release was highly-desired and the recognition from WAKAAN was much deserved. Many of the songs on Thought Process were ones I would skip through hours of mixes and unreleased clips to find. So when word got around that we’d be blessed with a full EP of unreleased hits, I was ecstatic. I can’t wait to see how Mize grows and flourishes in the upcoming years and I’ll be patiently awaiting my next opportunity to hear these newest releases live!
