Adam Beyer Releases Earworm Techno EP, ‘Do It For The Bass’

Drumcode don Adam Beyer demonstrates how to make techno with mass appeal in his latest two-tracker, Do It For The Bass.

Needless to say, Adam Beyer is a big deal in the world of techno. The head of Drumcode — arguably the biggest imprint in the space — he knows how to cut a record that will resonate with a wide audience. This is clear as ever in his latest two-track EP, Do It For The Bass.

The title track opens the effort, making a case for vocals in techno — albeit savagely distorted ones. Underscoring these Avant-Garde verses are suspenseful atmospheres and gritty synth plucks complementing a drumline sure to keep bodies in motion on any dancefloor.

“Circus Freaks” follows. In this track, the vocal elements assume more of a supporting role, merely complementing the rest of the sonic elements filling the arrangement. Despite its similarity to “Do It For The Bass,” the song’s different approach makes it sound like the opposite side of the coin.

The EP has arrived after Beyer’s January remix of “Fascination” by Romina Dez and Muter, which came out in 2022. Previously, he has delivered EPs like Let’s Begin in February 2024 and Desert Queen in October 2023.

Last year, Beyer teamed up with Yacht Week for Drumcode’s final takeover of one of their sailings across the Adriatic Sea. In 2024, the prolific performer will take the stage for Drumcode London at Drumsheds in March, Time Warp in April, and Kappa Futurfestival in July.

Over the nearly three decades that it has operated as a label, Drumcode has given a home to music by artists like Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens, and Green Velvet. When we spoke to Drumcode signee Metodi Hristov in August, he shared some of the label’s releases that have inspired him the most throughout his career.
