Phantoms Revisit Their Roots with Club-Driven EP, ‘Perpetual Motion’

Phantoms return with Perpetual Motion, a club-forward EP that effortlessly blends the sounds that shaped them, out now on Foreign Family Collective.

Since their 2016 debut, Kyle Kaplan and Vinnie Pergola have shaken up the electronic scene as Phantoms with unmatched versatility. Effortlessly blending house, pop, and alternative electronica, the duo have conquered dance charts and won the support of industry heavyweights like ODESZA.

Since signing with ODESZA’s label Foreign Family Collective, their creative freedom has only flourished. They released their debut album, This Can’t Be Everything, under the imprint, and now, they are back to deliver their latest EP, Perpetual Motion.

Perpetual Motion showcases Phantoms’ ability to evolve while staying true to their roots. The six-track project signals a bold return to the gritty indie dance and electro house soundscapes that first sparked their passion for music.

Phantoms see Perpetual Motion as a pivotal moment in their journey. Following the success of their 2022 album, the duo felt a pull to create club-ready tracks that would bring new energy to their sets. What began as an experimental project has evolved into a cohesive body of work that reaffirms their place in the indie-electro house scene.

This EP marks an exciting turning point for us. It felt like an opportunity to go back to our roots in the indie dance/electro/blog house world that got us into music in the first place.

The EP kicks off with “Floating On,” a track that draws inspiration from French house, setting a vibrant and melodic tone. From there, listeners are swept into the title track, “Perpetual Motion,” a high-energy anthem that ignited the duo’s new creative direction when it first dropped as a single in June. According to Phantoms, this EP was born from a desire to craft music reminiscent of the blog house and indie-electro house era, a sound that shaped their early careers and informed their musical identity.

Jackie Peppler

Based in Southern California, Jackie grew up with a profound love for all things dance music. She found a home in the festival scene and realized her dream of pursuing a career in music and event production at just fourteen. Over the years, she has worked in various facets of the industry, including writing for various media outlets, managing social media at Audio San Francisco, organizing local events with Burning Man, and working as artist transportation at festivals like Life Is Beautiful. She fell in love with Anjunadeep during her time at Audio, with progressive and deep house encapsulating her heart. However, her music taste spans far and wide, so you never know which side of the festival grounds you may find her at. When she's not bopping around a festival, you'll likely find her behind the decks as DJ JAKLŸN.
