Dubstep prodigy Torcha teamed up with fellow producer skxllflower to drop a new set of heaters on the CAROUSEL EP, with a track featuring grime vocalist Rakjay.
By now, most heads in the dubstep community have caught onto Torcha, an up-and-coming producer out of Toronto. Known for his stripped-down 140 cuts, odes to UK grime, and even his not-so-secret love for trench-style chops, he’s one of the fastest ascending talents within the underground scene. Torcha has put his deep sound on display in recent years with appearances at Sound Haven Festival, Red Rocks, and more, and now he’s dropped off even more tunes for fans to feast their ears on.
For his latest release, Torcha teamed up with New York-based producer skxllflower on his first self-release, CAROUSEL. With four tracks in the pair’s signature dark-themed 140 styles, the EP is a perfect example of fresh modern sound-system music with a nod to its roots.
The first track, “Element 5’s,” is an instant favorite with the only vocalist feature on the EP and an ode to Torcha and many dubstep fans’ favorite sound system. Up-and-coming grime star Rakjay is featured on the heavy beat to add a lethal dose of UK-style rhymes. Hearing this one played out on the beloved sound system would be undoubtedly satisfying.
The following two tracks, “Like This” and “Womper,” keep the 140 tempo going with some added womps and wobbles that you’ll definitely want to run back. Torcha and skxllflower’s final offering, “Pressurize,” closes out CAROUSEL in a classic, sinister-style dubstep fashion for a perfect closing statement to the project.
CAROUSEL is out now, so make sure to stream all four tracks on your best set of speakers.
