Rezz has teamed up with anonymous producer X1-Y2 to deliver four forward-thinking midtempo tunes on the NOVUS EP.

Although Rezz might be most renowned for her solid productions and the stunning visuals found in her performances, there’s another side of this blossoming artist in the scene. She launched HypnoVizion in 2022 and began her journey as a label head, but this isn’t your average imprint that hosts releases; it’s allowed her to showcase her mentorship abilities. Rezz did just that by teaming up with mysterious artist X1-Y2 to drop her latest collaborative EP, NOVUS.

Out now on HypnoVizion, the four-track NOVUS EP is rooted in dystopian sonic motifs with impeccable sound design that puts the power of Rezz and X1-Y2’s productions on display. “NOVUS is a huge achievement for me, not only by being able to work closely with one of the biggest inspirations in music today, but by also being able to push the threshold of creation with new concepts and showcase it with this EP,” said X1-Y2 about the release.

I wanted to channel a futuristic/industrial/sinister vibe with this project and reconnect with the part of myself that was creating instrumental heavy, cutting-edge records. Working with X1 was a seamless experience and we managed to complete this EP from start to finish in a very quick and efficient way. To say I’m proud of this EP is an understatement.

Rezz

“PROXIMATE” opens this journey into the depths of the unknown with an eerie, unsettling ambiance. Its gritty, mechanical bassline punches you straight in the gut as synths creep in and out for added effect. A lighter atmosphere arrives in the intro of “ETERNAL,” but the sinister sounds take hold soon enough, and you’re thrown straight into a hellscape filled with distortion.

That distortion carries into “ZERO,” a track with its ominous nature ever-present throughout its runtime, making it perfect for the spooky season. This leads to “SUBSEQUENT,” the final tune, which features an oscillating bassline filled with industrial elements, distant screams, and more that will leave you looking over your shoulder to ensure you’re not being followed.

Listen to NOVUS on Spotify or your preferred platform, and stay tuned for more from Rezz and X1-Y2 by following them on social media.
