Australian trio RÜFÜS DU SOL puts their vulnerability on full display with the soundscapes on their latest studio album, Inhale / Exhale.

RÜFÜS DU SOL aren’t just producers who churn out hit after hit in the indie electronic realm. Their soundscapes on albums like Surrender and SOLACE cut deeper into listeners’ souls to stir up emotions, while their live shows are profound experiences that create lasting memories. Today, the Aussie trio has built on their legacy with another album dripping with gorgeous elements and love-fueled lyrics, Inhale / Exhale.

The latest album from RÜFÜS DU SOL arrives after the trio’s brief separation after the conclusion of their most recent tour. That distance seemingly made their hearts fonder because the 15 tracks on Inhale / Exhale are filled to the brim with lyrics that evoke the feelings of falling in love, affirmations for those you care about the most, and so much more. It’s RÜFÜS DU SOL at their most vulnerable, and it’s brilliant.

“Music is Better” led the charge for the release of Inhale / Exhale, with the track prominently played during their monumental set at Coachella’s new Quasar stage. It became the song of the summer for many, but RÜFÜS DU SOL didn’t waste time to let other tracks like “Lately,” “Break My Love,” and “Pressure” begin to surface in the following months. All four of these singles were a good indicator of what would come on the album, and the remaining 11 tunes are just as sublime.

“Breathe” arrives as an early standout with its light intro, soft beat, and emotive vocals that will leave you floating forward like the first time you fell in love. You’d think you’d get that feeling in “Levitating,” instead, it’s a stripped-back ride with percussion, vocal chops, and guitar front and center that show off a more subdued atmosphere as the track crescendos to its chorus.

If you’re hunting for some tunes that will make you melt, “The Life,” “Fire / Desire,” and “Edge of the Earth” are sure to do the trick with their soothing yet dance-ready nature. And I’d be remiss not to mention how proper the album’s two bookends are. “Inhale” sets the stage as a captivating intro with a ticking clock and Tyrone’s vocals front and center, while “Exhale” offers a pensive moment of closure as the final seconds wash over your ears.

RÜFÜS DU SOL has delivered yet another masterpiece of an album for their global fanbase to bask in. Listen to Inhale / Exhale on Spotify or your preferred platform in all its glory, and follow the trio on social media to stay informed about their upcoming shows and releases.
