CRi’s latest EP on Anjunadeep, Hold You, showcases his prowess in crafting gorgeous, emotion-fueled soundscapes.
For years, CRi has been at the top of the list for many who are hunting for soul-stirring tunes that offer everything from pensive moments to those where you want to let loose and dance. While he’s trotted around labels like This Never Happened and Young Art Records, his biggest home has been on Anjunadeep. This is where CRi has soared to the highest of heights with albums like Juvenile and Miracles, and now he’s dropped off his latest offering of tunes on the Hold You EP.
The Hold You EP is short, only containing three tracks that clock in at just over 13 minutes, but the soundscapes inside are stunningly beautiful. Its title track leads the way with a bubbly beat, hi-hats, and breathy vocals, guiding listeners into a dreamy atmosphere that will give them a warm hug as the seconds tick away.
“As You Want” dives deeper into the night as distant vocals creep in from the background, almost like an accent to the indie dance groove. The beat begins a slow crescendo as the vocals grow stronger and more prominent, preparing you for the second drop that is sure to leave you dancing away with your hands in the air.
The final tune, “Dark In This Room,” retains the melodic elements of the previous two while delivering the EP’s most powerful vocal performance. This is one of those tracks where the soundscape carries you to a different state of mind as you close your eyes and bop your head along to the beat. It might’ve been released in June, but this stunner from CRi deserves a repeat listen.
