Gryffin Brings a ‘PULSE’ Back to 2000s Dance Music

Inspired by the early 2000s dance scene, Gryffin delivers his third studio album, PULSE, featuring Armin van Buuren, Whethan, Elderbrook, and more.

Electronic music sensation Gryffin has risen to the top with his breathtaking catalog of melodic originals and remixes. Since his debut album Gravity in 2019, the multidimensional artist has only further expanded his impressive discography and solidified himself as one of the greats. His sophomore album Alive, which came just three years later, was packed with the hauntingly euphonic sing-alongs for which Gryffin is famous.

Now, the multi-platinum producer is paying tribute to a throwback era of dance music with his third studio album, PULSE, out now on Virgin Music. The album is designed to reflect the dynamic energy of the dancefloor, fusing the lyrical focus of his previous albums with fresh, diverse sounds and nostalgic undertones. While it’s meant to embody the sweet sounds of the early 2000s that Gryffin remembers so fondly, it also serves as the beating heart of a new era in dance music that knows no bounds.

I definitely pushed myself outside of my comfort zone as an artist and delivered something that brought a whole new perspective to my style of music. I experimented with a bunch of different sub genres within dance music like techno and drum and bass. This album is a testament to dance music culture and highlights how versatile this genre is. PULSE reminds me of why I fell in love with dance music in the first place. I’ve never had so much fun making an album, so stoked for all of you to listen.

Previously released singles like “LAST OF US” featuring Rita Ora, “WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG” with Armin van Buuren, “MAGIC” with babyidontlikeyou, “MAGNET” with Disco Fries and MAX, and “DANCE THROUGH THE NIGHT” with Whethan and Norma Jean Martine gave fans a glimpse into the kaleidoscopic, 14-track masterpiece. Each song pulses to the beat of its own drum, bringing many different genres to life.

Every cut represents a feeling, a moment in time—a collision of the past, present, and future—but two songs in particular took center stage.

“ENEMIES,” featuring bludnymph and Shift K3Y, is a high-energy bop that instantly transforms you into a dark, pulsing nightclub with sweaty bodies dripping in glitter and neon. “DANDELION,” featuring the hypnotic vocals of Olivia Sebastianelli, is a stutter house fever dream, and it feels like stepping directly into the glimmering sunset over a sea of ravers at the main stage. After all, as the latter song echoes, “We have sunlight in our bones.”

Jackie Peppler

Based in Southern California, Jackie grew up with a profound love for all things dance music. She found a home in the festival scene and realized her dream of pursuing a career in music and event production at just fourteen. Over the years, she has worked in various facets of the industry, including writing for various media outlets, managing social media at Audio San Francisco, organizing local events with Burning Man, and working as artist transportation at festivals like Life Is Beautiful. She fell in love with Anjunadeep during her time at Audio, with progressive and deep house encapsulating her heart. However, her music taste spans far and wide, so you never know which side of the festival grounds you may find her at. When she's not bopping around a festival, you'll likely find her behind the decks as DJ JAKLŸN.
