Galimatias Teams Up with R&B Phenom Zeauxi for New EP

Galimatias unveils four Bossa Nova-inspired tracks with Zeauxi on his latest EP, The Island of Peach Bellini.

Galimatias, best known for his 2015 EP Urban Flora, which includes the time-tested “Fantasy” with Alina Baraz, has been tugging electronic music in a gentler direction for over ten years. His elegant touch encompasses a starry glimmer of meditative beats, atmospheric soundscapes, and alluring R&B, with each new release reimagining the limits of the dance genre.

While the Danish producer has generally been quiet on the production front since his 2020 solo debut album, Renaissance Boy, he is now breaking the silence by teaming up with R&B phenom Zeauxi on a new Bossa Nova-inspired four-track EP, The Island of Peach Bellini.

The 11-minute peaceful voyage kicks off with “Party Cone Waltz,” a track bristling with classical guitars, soothing synths, and sultry melodies. Soon after on “BPL,” the song’s sensual bassline and swaying textures provide a pleasant listening experience to the listener, yet it’s Zeauxi’s lyrical voice that adds a fun and flirty energy to the record, evoking a chill aroma one finds at a dimly lit bar.

The most memorable part of this music cruise is the sun-kissed ballad “Smoke and Scarecrows.” The swirling of jazz elements, orchestral strings and percussions, and misty lo-fi licks create a romantic atmosphere—but it’s misleading, as Zeauxi’s velvety voice tells a story of unreciprocated love. However, Zeauxi’s character seems to be over her love interest, or accepting her one-sided relationship, by engaging with another lover, with the cheerful lo-fi beat and Bossa Nova instruments representing her newfound freedom on “The Martini Shot.”

It’s unclear when a new Galimatias album will be released, but in an October 2023 video, the producer said that he’s working on the art for his next full record. Until then, let the breezy sounds of this charming EP drift you away.
