Morgin Madison Impresses on His Latest Sonic ‘Odyssey’

in New Releases

On his sophomore album, Odyssey, Morgin Madison crafted stunning, genre-defying soundscapes that will stir emotions and make you want to dance.

One rising artist who has continued to impress with each passing release is Morgin Madison. This Boise-based DJ and producer captivated listeners over the past few years with releases on mau5trap, Purified, PRGRSSN, and Colorize while dominating the decks along the way. His debut album, Living the Phantasm, was a well-received body of work, but Morgin Madison found himself a bit lost after its release, leading him to embark on a path of rediscovery. The result of that journey has culminated in the aptly titled Odyssey.

“I took the time to go back to square one and find my genuine passion for music again instead of just stumbling from one single to the next for the sake of the EDM grind,” he said in our recent interview. “This album is about the last three years of finding peace and presence in my life again, and I think the music reflects that.”

Out now via Colorize, Odyssey is a journey into Morgin Madison’s creative mind as he flexes his skills as a solo producer and collaborator throughout its 16 tracks. The genre-defying nature he brings to his productions is put on full display, with elements from genres including progressive house, techno, downtempo, trance, and more littered throughout each soundscape.

The spoken-word vocal and swirling melodic elements on “Deepest Truth” help set the tone for what’s to come. This one pangs deep in the soul as you “release yourself to the unknown” and are met by a gorgeous collaborative tune with Viligir and Pastelle, “Illithid’s March,” which delivers a deep, bumping bassline and fantasy-fueled elements that transport you to a distant place in space and time.

Other collaborations, like “Tell Me Who You Are” with Ryan Lucian and Jas., “Closer” with Adam Nazar and Crimsen, “Breathe” with Linney, and “Don’t Look Back” with HILYTE and Kayrae carry similar atmospheres. You’ll find yourself falling deeply in love with the sultry vocals and powerful melodies on each of these, and they’re all ripe for multiple listens.

While those tunes prove Morgin Madion’s soaring nature, his solo productions on Odyssey are also absolute gems. Standouts include “Fading Lights,” “Fantasy,” “Limit Break,” “Feel Alive,” and “Overdrive,” each of which offers a glimpse into his different genre influences. There are moments where you can’t help but dance and others where you might be basking in the glow of uplifting tones, making this album a complete story that’s unfolded as you flip through the tunes like chapters in a book.
