Gorgon City Brings a State Of ‘Reverie’ to the Dancefloor

House duo Gorgon City impresses on their fifth studio album, Reverie, filled with a flurry of club-focused tracks that will stir up a sense of nostalgia.

Matt Robson-Scott and Kye Gibbon, better known as Gorgon City, have come a long way since their underground newcomer status twelve years ago. The dynamic duo have solidified themselves as house music heroes with an incredible dedication to their craft, dominating dancefloors and carving out a massive discography full of iconic LPs like Salvation, Olympia, Escape, and Sirens. Now, the boys are back with their latest album, Reverie, and it goes deeper and darker than ever before.

Reverie finds Gorgon City moving away from their classic, melodic marvels and into the club-driven influence of the underground. Fresh off the heels of their 2023 acclaimed album Salvation, full of melancholic house anthems like “Voodoo” and “A Lot Like Heaven,” there’s been a drastic shift in the duo’s craft. This has been the year for embracing the underground in the mainstream, and Gorgon City is now at the forefront of this movement with their latest sonic offering.

We wanted to come back with a club-focused album and once we got asked to headline the Yuma tent at Coachella it was a perfect catalyst to get it done for that show and environment. It came together quite quickly, and we loved the reactions we got to the tracks in our DJ sets. We’re really proud of all the tunes on it.

Gorgon City

Over the last year, Gorgon City has highlighted their transformation and hyped up fans for Reverie with hedonistic, seductive singles like “Biggest Regret” featuring Bbyafricka and “One New Change.” These punchy, deep tracks captivated my attention from the jump with its stark contrast from singles we’ve seen in the past. “Breathe You In” featuring NORTH and “All That You Need” featuring Caroline Byrn both offer up that Gorgon City nostalgia with new, dark undertones that gave me goosebumps.

Their most recent single, “How Do You Love?” featuring hypnotic vocals from Mougleta, was another sonic masterpiece and the final precursor to the release of this 11-track project. It’s a high-energy banger reminiscent of Gorgon City’s house-heavy roots. The album’s introductory track, “Are You Feeling It Too?” breaks up the duo’s familiar sounds with some sultry, techno essence. Yes, guys, we certainly are feeling it too.

Another standout, “Make It Happen,” features Chicago icon DJ Pierre, and is an acid-fueled heater meant to echo across the walls of a dark abandoned warehouse. The final tune, “Dreaming,” has some stutter house influence coupled with those early ’00s soundscapes that bring such ethereal, familiar energy to the dancefloor, and it has to be one of my favorites on the entire album.

Gorgon City’s fifth album, Reverie, is available now on all major platforms! Tickets to all upcoming shows, including a trio of album launch parties, can be found on their official website.

Based in Southern California, Jackie grew up with a profound love for all things dance music. She found a home in the festival scene and realized her dream of pursuing a career in music and event production at just fourteen. Over the years, she has worked in various facets of the industry, including writing for various media outlets, managing social media at Audio San Francisco, organizing local events with Burning Man, and working as artist transportation at festivals like Life Is Beautiful. She fell in love with Anjunadeep during her time at Audio, with progressive and deep house encapsulating her heart. However, her music taste spans far and wide, so you never know which side of the festival grounds you may find her at. When she's not bopping around a festival, you'll likely find her behind the decks as DJ JAKLŸN.
