The realms of house and drum and bass collide as John Summit and Sub Focus officially release their collaborative tune, “Go Back.”

While house music has been at the top of the food chain for decades in the US scene, drum and bass has ebbed and flowed in popularity. That said, the two genres have more eyes on them than ever, with major artists dominating the charts and rising stars quickly ascending the scene’s ranks. So what happens when you take one of the hottest names in house music and smash it together with a drum and bass legend? John Summit and Sub Focus have the answer to that question with their new tune, “Go Back.”

The past few years have marked an impressive run for Summit, who has become known for dropping everything from dancefloor heaters to emotional, trance-twinged tunes. On the flip side of this tune is Sub Focus, a legend in the drum and bass realm who continues to prove year after year that his creativity knows no bounds while still dropping massive anthems along the way.

Although these two might exist in different subsets of the scene, they have many commonalities, and some magic was made when they finally hit the studio together. “I’ve always loved drum and bass and knew I wanted to combine my sound with it somehow.” John Summit shared. “As a fan of Sub Focus and his use of combining strong vocals with infectious melodies, similarly to my style, I knew there was potential. Being able to come together and truly combine our two styles worked out even better than we both anticipated.”

We came up with the idea of speeding up the tempo in the middle of the song between House and Drum n Bass, inspired by a drum and bass remix of Lil Louis’ “French Kiss,” which I used to love back in the day. It’s been amazing to see crowds from around the world respond to the song and the energy uplift that this tempo change creates.

Teased for months and played in both artists’ recent tour stops and festival appearances, “Go Back” seamlessly marries elements of house and drum and bass together to create a larger-than-life anthem brimming with energy. The floating feeling you get while listening to the first half dissipates once the second half’s drum and bass section kicks into full gear.

Julia Church, known for her work with artists like Tinlicker, provides the gorgeous vocals found on this one that really takes it to the next level. House, drum and bass, and heartstring-tugging vocals make for an intoxicating blend that makes “Go Back” an early contender for song of the summer.

If the current hype surrounding “Go Back” is any indication, it’s sure to be a tune that dominates festival speakers for some time to come. Give it a spin on Spotify or your preferred platform, and follow these two on social media to stay in the know on what they have planned next.
