Dusky invites fellow artists J.O.S.H.U.A., Kassian, RUDY J*, and more to honor the past while embracing the future on Floor To Floor: 10 Years of 17 Steps.

Founded in 2014, Dusky‘s label, 17 Steps, is well known for throwing the word “genre” out the window. Now, a decade later, Floor To Floor: 10 Years of 17 Steps signifies the label’s continuous innovation and desire to showcase musically diverse talent in electronic dance music.

Floor To Floor: 10 Years of 17 Steps encapsulates an essence of old-school energy while using modern production techniques and sounds. The compilation is curated to be played in its entirety without needing to shuffle, seamlessly transferring synergy from track to track.

“The label has always been driven by a genuine passion for electronic music, and we’re proud of the support it has provided for emerging talent over the years,” Dusky said. “We continue to be excited by listening to the new music we receive and are motivated by seeing the role the label has played in the story of the artists who have contributed.”

The compilation opens with Machine Dion, Aldonna & Dusky, and AIDA providing tracks to expand your consciousness. RUDY J*, aka Josh Ludlow, wraps up the first third of the 17-track compilation with “Exist in Bubble Format,” a masterpiece in acid electronica that serves as a musical intermission. If you’re missing proper warehouse raves, these tracks will surely take you back.

No stranger to the UK Garage sound, listeners are shifted into 17 Step’s signature four-on-the-floor bounce throughout the rest of the tracklist. MNL.‘s “Boot Bag” and Smokey Bubblin’ B‘s “Once Again” do not disappoint in delivering the rhythm to get back out on the dancefloor.

Kassian and J.O.S.H.U.A. lend their magic with stand-out productions that contribute to the heart of the eclectic sampling. Kassian offers “157 FM,” which features a minimal breakbeat with sultry vocal runs for added flair. Meanwhile, J.O.S.H.U.A.’s high-energy “Burpees for Breakfast,” described by Dusky as “a rowdy but playful techno track with just the right amount of chaos,” stands tall toward the end of the compilation as it begins to wind down. Finally, Scaefa intricately ties together vintage and contemporary musicality to bring the collection of tunes to a “Celestial” close.
