in New Releases

Mark Knight, Hayden James, Anabel Englund, Marie Vaunt, Carla Durisch, and Capozzi delivered house and techno heaters during the week of March 11!

Festival season is upon us, and our community is getting ready to join the Mad Tea Party at Beyond Wonderland and have fun under the sun at Ultra Music Festival this weekend. That means it’s time to pre-game. EDMID is here to help set the tone with our favorite house and techno tunes of the week!

We started with Mark Knight revisiting a 2007 UK banger, and then Hayden James and Anabel Englund were selected to keep the groove alive. But don’t get too comfortable because a techno tornado is about to sweep through, instigated by Marie Vaunt, Carla Durisch, and Capozzi. By the time you reach the final beat on our IDchart, you’ll be primed and ready to bust out your best moves on the festival grounds.

Speaking of which, Tomorrowland Winter is already underway and you can be part of the action by watching the official livestream! From the slopes to subtropics, check out what your favorite artists have to say about Ultra and secure your last-minute Miami Music Week party tickets. Have your eyes on a festival later in the season? We have your lineups for ARC and Tomorrowland’s CORE Medellín, as well as info on Coachella’s new Quasar Stage.

For unique reading material, we suggest our interview with Vanderpump Rules’ James Kennedy, how Berlin techno scored its UNESCO Cultural Heritage status, and conquering Art Of The Wild at XS.

Read along for more information on five fresh tracks that dropped last week, and listen to more house and techno curations on EDM Identity’s Subterranean Sounds, House Heaters, Melodic Marvels, and Dancefloor Decadence Spotify playlists!

House and Techno IDchart 008 – March 11-17, 2024

Groove Armada ft. STUSH and Red Rat – Get Down (Mark Knight Remix)

Mark Knight, the house icon and Toolroom tycoon, revs the IDchart engines with his take on Groove Armada‘s “Get Down” featuring Stush and Red Rat. The original made history as Groove Armada’s first top-ten single before going on to nab the number-one spot on the UK Dance Singles Chart.

A decade and a half later, we’re still getting down to “Get Down,” having enjoyed remixes from Walker & Royce, Calvin Harris, and more along the way. Mark Knight’s take is purely a bonus.

He fills in the bassline with percussion that sizzles and slaps. And while the vocal remains an important focal point, he decorates the edges with trippy sound details that send the brain for a spin. As “Get Down” retains its timeless magnetism, it’ll be interesting to see which major beatmaker it draws in next.

Hayden James, Anabel Englund – Different Worlds

The latest to arrive out of the studios of multi-platinum Aussie producer Hayden James and American singer-songwriter and record producer Anabel Englund is a dynamic mainstage moment-maker called “Different Worlds.” This marks the first release for the former and the second release for the latter in 2024, following “Cutting Loose” with J. Worra and Disco Lines.

The clash between Anabel’s romantic vocal delivery and the grainy vibration effect that follows makes our love for this piece run wild! It’s the type of tune that can be appreciated both on and off the dancefloor. If you prefer it on, then don’t miss Hayden James’ set during the Our House event at Drumsheds London on April 27, featuring Meduza, James Hype, and more.

Want to catch Anabel Englund? She’ll be at Q Nightclub in Seattle on April 13. Grab your tickets now!

Marie Vaunt – ADSR

It’s time to change course and head straight to the afters for some techno therapy. Marie Vaunt, the self-proclaimed and proven “Acid Techno Priestess” gets us sorted with her latest studio stunner, “ADSR,” plucked from Drumcode Presents: Elevate Vol. II.

The compilation features an impressive list of new and established artists alike, including Tokyo’s Drunken Kong, Blu Music Founder Sydney Blu, melodic techno master KASIA, and IBIZA’s own Davina Moss, among others. Marie Vaunt’s offering jumps out of the pack, featuring her signature acid stabs, rattling tones, and a chugging rhythm, surrounding an AI vocal that will stick to your brain like superglue.

Carla Durisch – Moist

Zürich’s Carla Durisch drops us deeper into the underground with the debut of THRPY RECORDS. It’s important to note that while she’s just starting to build her production catalog (and career as label boss), she’s already leaps and bounds ahead of the pack when it comes to originality. This is a testament to her deep understanding and respect for the club floor, born from her seasoned and celebrated life in the DJ booth.

“Moist” delivers moody industrial vibes, featuring mechanical tones and what can be figuratively described as makeshift percussion. Carla tops off the piece with a smoldering vocal that melts flawlessly into the instrumental. All elements combined leave the listener red and sweaty from the provocative late-night interaction.

Capozzi – ELE

We round out the week with a techno titan called “ELE” by Capozzi, available on Tchami‘s Confession imprint. This release simply strengthens her legacy with the brand, a relationship that began a half-decade ago with “SOS.”

From the go, “ELE” quickly weasels its way deep into the subconscious, wrought with post-apocalyptic energy and a distorted vocal that sends chills down the spine. This one is begging for a dark room filled with fog and a simple strobe. But if you want to catch it on the festival level, I’m sure Capozzi will oblige at North Coast Music Festival in Chicago over Labor Day Weekend!

Maria first fell in love with electronic music in the early 2000's when she heard a little tune called "Satisfaction" by Benny Benassi. Since then she has dived headfirst into the scene and is wildly passionate about the trance, techno, and house genres. Festival's like EDC, Dreamstate, and Dirtybird Campout hold the key to her soul and dance music will always and forever be a major part of her life.
