ISOxo Breaks the Scene with ‘kidsgonemad!’ Album

in Album Review

The revolutionary album from ISOxo, kidsgonemad!, is finally here, and it’s everything that fans dreamed of and more.

Truly a force to be reckoned with, rising superstar ISOxo has already reached a level of notoriety that many artists can only dream of. First coming to major attention with tracks like “REDLOOP” and “Stinger” with RL Grime, the young San Diego native has become unstoppable in his ascent to the top. In the last three years, he’s cemented his place within the scene, perfecting his brand and sound while carving out his own path.

Since those standout releases, ISOxo has had quite the career trajectory, headlining some noteworthy festivals, including Outside Lands and Moonrise, and curating his own “dontstopme!” release party in collaboration with Brownies & Lemonade, No Expectations, and Pirate Pandas. After that track’s release, ISOxo teased listeners with single releases “SHYPOP” with Ninajirachi and “STARsound” with fussy. Now, ISOxo has unleashed the highly anticipated kidsgonemad! album which will be followed by a coinciding tour in 2024.

It’s no secret that ISOxo is one of a few select artists who are reimagining electronic trap music as we know it. Now, three years in the making, kidsgonemad! is not just another release but rather a call to arms for a cultural reset. The album represents all that ISOxo is and hopes for dance music to be again: alive, free, with an itch for rebellion.

This album can be split into three parts. The first few tracks have a cocky, rebellious energy that builds to a breaking point with ‘pressure’. The second part is about trying to reconnect with the passion and feeling of making music with no restrictions or expectations (how2fly). And part three builds again into the high energy from part one and brings back those themes but from a more hopeful perspective. kidsgonemad! is the whole journey of growth and self-discovery from brash rebellion and angst to hopelessness, and finally acceptance and self-worth.

ISOxo rings in a new era with kidsgonemad!, redefining everything we know about dance music.

The album features 13 beautifully crafted tracks, kicking it off with the titular track, which repeats the “kidsgonemad!” mantra familiar to all ISOxo fans who’ve seen him live within the last year. Following suit, “dontstopme!” brings electrifying energy with trap beats and sensual vocals that will make you question what the song is truly about. Meanwhile, “MOONSPELL” takes listeners for a different kind of ride, with a sweet, percussive melody and low-end bass sure to get bodies gyrating.

Up next, “VOXCUTR” appeals to the more subterranean fans with thundering techno kicks and echoing vocals. “PRESSURE” follows a similar theme, then suddenly turns on the trap to high gear, with hints of a more classic trap sound we all know and love. Slowing it down now, “fragile” brings a piano melody and distinct beeping sample into harmony, the perfect segue into “how2fly” at the midway point. This tune will raise goosebumps on listeners’ skin, with themes of hope, dreams, and desire.

The previously released “STARsound” follows, featuring the talented fussy’s angelic vocals to make for a true standout. Changing the pace a bit is “SKYLIT,” a softer track, with the vocals stealing the show in the first half, then complimenting beautifully with the drum kicks that follow. ISOxo then goes full-throttle with “IGNORANT,” a tune that listeners will definitely be turning up to before ISOxo calls on Wavedash to create “OK!OK!OK!,” a heavenly break-fueled song that erupts into laser-like synths.

ISOxo then begins the final leg of the journey with his previously released single with Ninajirachi, “SHYPOP,” for a dose of energy that fulfills all breakcore dreams. For the finishing blow, “growing pains” invokes bittersweet emotions with its melancholic soundscape, yet it also provides hope for the future of this rising artist in the scene.

kidsgonemad! does a spectacular job of combining various elements of dance music to bring together the worlds of dance, emotion, and revolution once again. Fans will be thrilled to find that they can now experience the album live and join the movement, as ISOxo is gearing up for tour starting January 6, 2024.
