After a soft launch on Best of the Birdfeed Vol. 3, MAGNVM! is ready for his big Dirtybird debut with his latest EP, Clap.
Coming to listeners all the way from Milan, MAGNVM! has been creating quirky tunes that can bring out the groove in anyone. Using house, tech, breakbeats, and bass as a sonic medium, he has concocted a discography that offers a tasteful variety of tunes to get dancefloors moving while gaining looks from tastemakers in the scene. Earlier in the year, the Italian artist dipped his toes in the Dirtybird water with a single release on the label and a feature on the sublabel’s Best of the Birdfeed compilation, and now he’s dropped Clap, his debut EP on the imprint.
In a time where it seems like our attention spans are getting shorter and the media we consume is shrinking, MAGNVM! creates refreshing releases that buck that trend. The title track, “Clap,” opens the EP with a humming bass line and provocative drums, setting the vibe for the project. With bemusing synths and syncopating melodies, the house heater picks up and creates a vibe in full force. Using the time wisely, MAGNVM! quiets the track down to just the vocal sample and allows it to breathe before picking the funk back up.
The second feature on the release, “MinimAlien,” proves why the Clap EP found a home on the Dirtybird label even more so than the first track. This tune draws the listener in with pulsing drums, zapping samples, and quirky adornments. After captivating you and getting you in a comfortable groove, the track expands with modular tech elements that bring “MinimAlien” back to life, using ample time wisely.
MAGNVM!’s Clap EP marks an exciting moment in his career, so make sure to give the project a listen to see why. Listen to the release on Spotify or your preferred platform, and let us know what you think about it on Twitter!
