Ray Volpe Beams Brilliant Bass Beats on ‘VOLPETRON ASCENDS’

Ignited by the internal pressures of his own success, Ray Volpe makes his Monstercat debut with an effervescent yet fiery five-track EP.

Following a career-changing 2022 largely fueled by the explosion of “Laserbeam,” Ray Volpe is back with a diverse and distinctive EP full of determination, balance, and bass. Last fall, he kicked off his Legend of the Volpetron tour and rocked some monumental festival crowds. With upcoming performances set for Lost Lands, Nocturnal Wonderland, and EDSEA’s inaugural voyage alongside another expansive headlining tour, Ray Volpe is steadily earning his place among bass royalty via his incredible drive, bass chops, and creative spirit, and now he’s dropped off VOLPETRON ASCENDS for the masses to consume.

“ASCENSION” opens the EP with a cinematic sound that redirects to punchy synth lines and an ever-increasing beat pattern. Youthful, exuberant vocal splices breakthrough leading up to the first drop on VOLPETRON ASCENDS, successfully exacerbating excitement with precision. Previously released single “HAPPY SONG” then arrives and haunts with horror thematics while flaunting a textured bassline, rightfully stirring up fans’ anticipation for several weeks before the full drop.

With playability and adaptability that will energize the crowd almost instantly, “EAT SLEEP RAGE” has also had some time to marinate and starts to feel anthemic over time in a positive, powerful way. Elements from hardstyle, trap-hop, bass, and even house all touch down on “DROP EM,” which is complicated enough to both enamor and divide a room. Ray Volpe accomplishes an air of elegance and closes Volpetron Ascends on “IT ISN’T ME” with RUNN. Bright hits and delicate vocals act as a defiant embrace despite the track’s heartbreak messaging, offering glimpses of a previously unheard side of Ray Volpe that resonates on a deeper, emotional level.

This EP means a lot to me. After the last year of explosive growth, I felt an immense amount of pressure to “follow it up” and keep the momentum going. It caused me to hit a brick wall for a bit, but eventually I broke through and made a collection of what feels like my best work to date. It’s an incredibly exciting and creatively fulfilling feeling.
