LP Giobbi taps DESIREE, Le Chev, Krystal Klear, and more to put their spin on tracks from her debut album Light Places.

In May, piano house heavyweight LP Giobbi cast smiles upon faces worldwide when she dropped her eagerly awaited debut LP Light Places. The album, whose name was inspired by a Grateful Dead lyric, felt like looking through a kaleidoscope into the producer’s soul, like being granted a warm welcome into the garden of her mind. Each lush melody, symphonic beat, and impassioned vocal that pervaded its frequencies felt intentionally placed, saturating Light Places with feeling. LP Giobbi’s magnum opus to date, Light Places opens you up to something new that you didn’t notice before with each listen – a new note, a new sound, a new vocal.

Now, LP Giobbi has recruited collaborators old and new to rework a handful of numbers from Light Places. Each collaborator seems to know just how to spice their given track up while staying true to its original themes. From start to end, the remix album is a journey of its own. South African artist DESIREE starts things off with her remix of “All I Need,” contributing Afro house beats and a gorgeous rush of piano keys for a smooth, serene cut. Le Chev‘s remix of “All My Life” strikes a different chord, as he swaps out serenity for something more subterranean and synth driven.

Krystal Klear takes us on a trance journey with his rendition of “Another Life,” and suddenly the track is infused with a dose of hypnosis. Then, Chloé Caillet invites us into a nightclub atmosphere on her remix of “Can’t Let You Go,” where a frenzy of oscillating synths take the upbeat tune and tinge it with a futuristic touch. This contrasts with DJ Tennis and Joseph Ashworth‘s joint reworking of of the same track, which slants closer to the dance-pop nature of the source material. The duo pair up once again for a dub edit of “Georgia” that features pure, unadulterated beats with little melody, unlike anything we’ve heard on the record so far.

As we move closer to the end, “Feels Just Like It” gets the remix treatment from Hot Chip member Joe Goddard, who infuses the track with his signature alternative production style. Finally, Anden rearranges “If Love Is A Skill” into an erratic and commanding progressive cut, while VENGA opts for a fun, house-heavy variation of the same track. LP Giobbi couldn’t have picked out a more perfect batch of producers to give Light Places some new flavor. Just like the original album, Light Places Remixes is worth an infinite number of listens.
