ARTBAT’s UPPERGROUND Nurtures Its ‘Selected’ Series With ‘Cyberpunk’

ARTBAT’s UPPERGROUND imprint is back with the fourth edition of its Selected compilation series – this time they’re going Cyberpunk!

Selected is an extra special series that kicked off in May of 2022 on ARTBAT‘s young UPPERGROUND imprint. It has made a solid impression since its debut, welcoming unique future-forward talents to flex their skills on the platform. Just short of two months since the release of Selected JN23, the compilation is back with Cyberpunk Selected, featuring Shall Ocin, Fred Lenix, and Citizen Kain, as well as the ARTBAT boys themselves.

The Ukrainian label heads kick things off with “Artefact.” This tune is unrelentingly dark and keeps the bodies twisting with a bold bassline, stormy melodics, and demented tones. But the breakdown is where it really goes haywire, bringing a touch of cyborg character into the fray while shooting the experience into an extraterrestrial dimension.

Shall Ocin answers back with “External,” marking his third go-round with the label since “Origin” and Broken Hearts with Braev. For his Cyberpunk offering, he keeps the soundwaves mischievously mysterious and mechanic. From start to finish, listeners are treated with pops of intense future-forward euphoria with beats that work flawlessly in massive spaces.

Fred Lenix is next up to bat and he hits a home run with “Oblivion Bells.” Just like his previous counterpart, Fred circles back to UPPERGROUND since the winter release of “Dreamcatcher” alongside ARTBAT. His new tune manifests strong energy with heavy low-octave synth tones, but he also makes sure to let the room breathe with an almost complete pullback at the bridge before crescendoing into a state of pure industrial chaos.

All great things must come to an end, but first, there are some “Ghosts and Shadows” that Citizen Kain would love to introduce you to. For his debut on UPPERGROUND, the French techno aficionado allows the beat to lumber, reflecting the approach of a ghastly entity that haunts under the cloak of night. Between the gritty sound structures and drawn-out moody progression, this track keeps listeners on the edge of their seats with eerie surprises lurking around every corner.

Without further ado, it’s your turn to feel the innovative vibrations of Cyberpunk Selected. Grab your copy on your favorite music platform, stream the compilation on Spotify, and let us know what you think of the beats on Twitter!
