VLCN takes dubstep lovers on a trip through the bass-laden cosmos with his latest release, Galaxy Defense, that’s out now on Subsidia.
Tampa-based producer VLCN is celebrating his birthday exactly how he wants: with the release of his sophomore EP and the announcement of a nationwide tour! Known for his high energy level and attention-grabbing vocal features, it’s no surprise that the long-awaited tracks are being delivered with every bit of purpose and intention VLCN demands throughout his work. With releases across well-known labels like Rude Service, Lowly, Bassrush, and WAKAAN, VLCN has found a new home in Subsidia Records for his latest EP.
A steady release of singles and solid notoriety from a feature in Fortnite have afforded VLCN an ever-increasing fanbase for which he’s proving more than adaptable enough to entertain. Support from some of the industry’s biggest players and a self-drive that seemingly never quits pushes his sound throughout the dance scene’s largest stages. Building excitement for performances at both Bass Canyon and Lost Lands this year, the perfectly timed dropoff of Galaxy Defense flaunts VLCN’s attention to detail and preparedness to take over the scene.
Previously released single with LAYZ and featuring BLUPILL, “GET DROPPED” serves as a stellar opening track and a stern warning to listeners that mosh madness will. Steady siren-esque hits perpetuate a sense of emergency, leading into pulse-pluck strings and ethereal vocal melodies featured throughout “MF.” A stronger voice withstands the softer elements of this track, and the overall vibe stays true to its acronymous title.
Far-and-beyond variances on “The Samurai” with GOON effectively display a new level of VLCN’s production skill while remaining true to himself and the nature of his sound. The builds take longer than a typical dubstep track, but creative aspects build intrigue and drive an odd kind of high-level success. Metallic and screamo foundations saturate “Bone Splitter” featuring Grisly, a fitting feel for the producer pair and a track that doesn’t disappoint when compared to the previous.
VLCN and Dubscribe open with a classic DnB flair to open the EP’s title track. “Galaxy Defense” quickly strays from standards and enters new dimensions in rapid-fire succession, creating a funnel effect of new sounds throughout the listener’s headspace. ALIENPARK adds some extraterrestrial wonky-ness with a collaboration on “DOOM CANNON,” which successfully takes control of Galaxy Defense’s direction before heading into the EP’s closure. Every track among the seven can stand on its own, and VLCN and BLUPILL’s VIP of “GEEKED” is no exception; the amped-up version of this well-known release shouldn’t be missed.
