Ducky Returns to the Scene Under New Alias, a.k.a. skips

Grant Gilmore
a.k.a. skips

After retiring from the scene in 2021, the artist formerly known as Ducky has returned in full force under his new moniker, a.k.a. skips.

Turn the clock to the past decade and you’ll find energetic, hyper-rave sounds from Ducky front and center. Finding a home on labels including Dim Mak, Deadbeats, Astralwerks, and more, his tracks boomed through the speakers of festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, and Lollapalooza, among others. In 2021, CK retired the Ducky project as he privately began his transition as a transgender man and explore other creative desires, but now, two years later, he’s back and better than ever with a new project in tow, a.k.a. skips.

Just a few weeks ago, a.k.a. skips teased his return to the scene with a video and mood board on Instagram that featured Com3t and DJ Flapjack to give fans a taste of what’s in store for the future. Now, his debut single under the alias, “F.T.N.U.,” has officially landed on Play Nice and will immediately transport you back in time to the days of raves gone by. Short for “Fuck The Night Up,” this track features everything that a real raver could love with a flurry of hi-hats, vocal samples, and chord progressions layered over its thumping beat.

This new tune is just the latest piece of work to arrive from a.k.a. skips as he continues to help push the dance music scene forward. Beyond the beats, he’s showcased his paintings in galleries, taken up tattooing, and is currently working on an autobiographical photo book to showcase his story further, so keep your eyes peeled for more from him in the coming year.

I’m trying to recreate the feeling I had at 13 when my friend’s mom dropped us off at an unpermitted rave under an overpass in San Francisco. No pressure, no rules, maybe a little nostalgia now that I’m an adult, but music that’s really just meant for you to lose it to. Let go and dance!

Grant Gilmore’s authoritative voice as a media professional lends credibility not common to EDM journalism. As the founder of EDM Identity he has effectively raised the bar on coverage of the past decade’s biggest youth culture phenomenon. After ten years of working for nonprofit organization Pro Player Foundation, Gilmore launched EDM Identity as a media outlet offering accurate informative coverage of the rave scene and electronic music as a whole. Although they cover comprehensive topic matter, they have taken special care in interviewing the likes of Armin van Buuren, Adventure Club, Gorgon City, Lane 8 and Afrojack. In addition to household names, they have also highlighted unsung heroes of the industry through their ID Spotlight segment. Whether he’s covering it or not, you can expect to find Grant Gilmore attending the next big electronic music event. To find out what’s next on his itinerary, follow him via the social links below.
