Kyle Watson pays homage to the humble kick drum with the debut single on his newly-minted label, No Context Records.
South African DJ and producer Kyle Watson is an artist in the scene who needs little to no introduction for those who love the sounds of house music. His music has found a home on some of the most beloved labels around the world, ranging from REALM and SOLOTOKO to Big Beat and Club Sweat, while also being a force to be reckoned with as part of Box Of Cats. But now, in 2023, Kyle Watson is marching to the beat of his own kick drum with the launch of his new imprint, No Context Records.
Having garnered such immense support for his releases over the years, not to mention the fantastic sets he’s spun around the world, it was a no-brainer for Kyle Watson to start his own imprint. In fact, the idea was “bubbling under the surfaced for the longest time,” according to him, but procrastination continued to get the best of him. It wasn’t until this year that Kyle Watson finally dove into the creation of this label with the help of his wife, Tash, so that he could foster a new home for his music and curated tunes that stand out from other artists.
The first track to arrive on No Context Records comes from the label boss himself. “Kick Drums” is out now across all platforms and was created as a tribute to the humble sound that is the backbone of much of the dance music world. The track itself sees Kyle Watson lay the perfect kick and hypnotic vocals over a bassline that will hit you like a ton of bricks as it drives forward into the depths of the bass house realm. Expect to hear this one boom from the speakers of Coachella’s Yuma Tent in just a few short weeks – it’s a stomper.
I’ve been testing Kick Drums out in my sets for over half a year. After each run I brought it back into the studio and kept refining it until I was 100% happy, and that’s the version you hear today. It got some of the biggest reactions on my previous tour and when I teased it late 2022 on socials, judging from the reaction it was clear that people wanted it released. So here it is!
