After dropping “Pulling Me Under” with Phoebe Tsen on Purified, Heard Right swung by to tell us about the release and what’s to come.
Progressive and melodic house continues to swell in popularity and while many stalwarts of the genre have further pushed it forward, the rising talent is helping grow it even more. One of the artists who has been at the forefront of this movement in the scene as of late is Heard Right.
Since first breaking onto the scene years ago, this Belarusian producer has flexed his immense production abilities that landed releases on labels like Colorize, PRGRSSN, and Armada Music’s sublabel Statement!. That early support paved the way for Heard Right to make an even bigger splash in 2021 with tracks like “Voices” and “Retrospective” with Dyssa, along with EPs on Purified including Insight with Fløa and On The Edge with OAI.
This year has seen Heard Right take a trip even deeper into the melodic house and progressive realm by dropping “Runner” with Jope and the Be Myself EP with Anriu. Most recently, he returned to Purified by dropping “Pulling Me Under” with Phoebe Tsen and is gearing up for his debut album to drop on the label as well this summer.
Looking to gain some added insight into the mind of Heard Right, we caught up with him to chat about his early beginnings, creative process, and plenty more. Listen to his exclusive guest mix on SoundCloud and read on for the full conversation!

Hi Heard Right, thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us today. Before we get into your more recent work, let’s turn back the clock a bit. When did you first develop a passion for electronic music? Were there any specific artists that influenced you early on?
I started getting into electronic music at the age of 14-15, listening to various radio shows and making cuts from mixes in order to listen to them on my phone and computer. When I started my way as a music producer, I was inspired by artists such as Egoism, Umek, Weekend Heroes, Format:B. Since the beginning of my journey, I’ve been a fan of minimal techno and tech house music. At that time they had a great influence on me.
You’ve found a home in the realms of progressive and melodic house, and you’re really flourishing there. Was there something specific that drew you to these genres?
Yes, indeed. I found myself in these genres of music and I feel really comfortable when I am making progressive and melodic house. These genres attract me with their lightness and melodiousness because in my soul I have always loved calmer music that makes you think and feel.
There have been a number of fantastic solo tunes released by you over the past few years, but your collaborations with other artists like OAI, Fløa, and Furcloud have been amazing as well. Do you put yourself in a different mindset when producing collaborations compared to solo tunes?
The writing process itself is no different, but I think I’m better at working and finishing my partners’ tracks than doing solo work. Saying that, I try to show in solo tracks that I can make good music and this is very important for me. I am very glad that people like my tracks because I work primarily for them.
While your other releases this year have been stunning, “Pulling Me Under” with Phoebe Tsen is an absolute gem as well. What brought you together with Phoebe for this track? Can you walk us through the production process?
Thank you so much for the kind words about ‘Pulling Me Under’. I really appreciate it. When I finished the first instrumental tracks for the album, I asked the Purified label team to help me find nice vocals for these tracks. After a while, the label team showed me a demo from Phoebe and I really liked her voice and timbre. So we started working on the track, which in the end became the first single from my forthcoming album. I’m extremely happy with the final version and this track holds a special place in my heart. I am very glad that people liked this track, as we received a lot of positive feedback from the audience.
“Pulling Me Under” is just a taste of what’s to come on your forthcoming, debut album Dreams. What can you tell us about the creation of this album? Were its tracks all made with this specific release in mind or do some stem from other projects?
In my opinion, listeners are in for both pleasant surprises and familiar sounds. The main thing for me was to do something new for this release, but at the same time stick to my sound and stick to my style, and techniques that listeners love in my tracks. A special aspect is the melodiousness of the tracks, which is present in almost all the works from my album.
As an artist who is currently rising through the ranks of the scene, what has the support you’ve received from labels like Purified, Colorize, Enhanced, and more meant to you?
I appreciate the work of every label with which I have collaborated up to this point, thanks to them they introduced me to their audience and I received from them the most important thing which is love for my music and the attention of the listeners. So I want to say a big thank you to them!
Digging a bit deeper, what has been the biggest struggle (pandemic-aside) that you’ve faced so far in your career? Have you been able to overcome it?
I used to have a problem with working on tracks before a release… the expectation of the release itself and the thought of it did not allow me to calmly work on the tracks and finish them. I have now overcome that and I am very glad that I do not dwell on these things and work on music without any problems.
Finally, with the release of your debut album on the horizon, what other goals do you have on your agenda that you’d like to achieve next?
This is a good and difficult question at the same time. I guess I would like to further develop musically and work mostly on solo vocal tracks with great vocalists and perhaps make an album in the future with only vocal solo tracks. I think it would be interesting to implement and work on this project.
