AstroLizard Explores New Galaxies with ‘Bizarre Universe’ LP

Mysterious producer AstroLizard lands on WAKAAN with a slew of weird wubs and vibrant sounds on the ten-track Bizarre Universe LP.

While there is little known about AstroLizard, one thing is certain – this peculiar space reptile sure does bring the bass! Following their glitch-fueled remix of Liquid Stranger’s “Psychonaut” back in February, they continued to churn out big bass heaters with the releases of “Space Cowboy,” “Big Wub Energy,” and “The Mutation.” Now, the cryptic creature returns to the WAKAAN imprint with Bizarre Universe, a ten-track odyssey barreling through space and time with all gas and absolutely zero brakes.

Dabbling in a myriad of sonic macrocosms ranging from midtempo hybrids to chiller, more worldly track-listings, Bizarre Universe successfully delivers a celestial arsenal of sound that fans of any and all genres can groove to. Bursting with sultry basslines, extraterrestrial synths, and vibrant chord progressions, AstroLizard’s debut LP is bound to shake up the dance music space with each sexy wobble.

Though we recommend experiencing Bizarre Universe by listening to each tune in sequential order, we’ve highlighted a few standouts in our review. Stream the LP below or listen on your favorite platform, and read on for a deeper dive!

It should come as no surprise that the title track “Bizarre Universe” is one of our favorites on the LP.

Animated blips are woven with skipping chords kick off this tune before the intensity turns up a notch with stretches of gritty synth on this one. With a croaky pop of bass, “Bizarre Universe” transforms into a seductive cyclone of oscillating bass waves that ooze a rhythmic prowess irresistible to all.

Similar in vibe, “Falling Down” begins with static-filled vocal clips intertwining with higher-pitched singing. An upbeat swell of percussion escalates before descending into a deep and dark midtempo amalgamation of slinky vibrations and resounding bass kicks. The latter half carries the same Herculean energy while introducing a melodic synth line, morphing this tune into a sensual tear-jerker two minutes in.

For those searching for deep basses mixed with experimental flair, look no further than “Mandala.”

What serves as a fitting soundtrack for trudging through a robotic alien wasteland, “Mandala” ties juicy, thick basslines with malfunctioning audio blips. The result is a provocative fusion of otherworldly sounds, further proving AstroLizard is definitely not of this universe. While the aforementioned tracks pack a gritty punch, “Psychedelic Machine” envelops harmonic chimes and vibey synth waves into an emotive oasis of sound, serving as evidence of AstroLizard’s diverse sonic breadth.

Though tough to pick one last favorite, we’re choosing “Space Cowboy” for its colorful funk and hypnotic elements of psychedelia. Layers of flute-like chirrs and distorted trills join forces with luscious basslines in this eccentric bop that listeners won’t be able to get enough of.

From beginning to end, Bizarre Universe is a breathtaking journey into the unknown.

Mastering all sorts of sound combinations, AstroLizard stuns yet again with the deliverance of Bizarre Universe. Transcending earthly sonic planes, this anonymous bass lizard is infiltrating dance music with their deliciously abstract aural repertoire. Make sure to keep an eye on this rising reptilian star – with incendiary sounds as heard in Bizzare Universe, world domination is imminent!
