Folamour takes listeners on a trip down nostalgia lane with the release of his disco-infused album, The Journey on his label FHUO.

After releasing his mixtape, French producer Folamour found himself gaining more and more attention for his unique production style. However, he really made a name for himself worldwide after his 2017 debut album, Umami. He has consistently wowed audiences with his sophomore LP Ordinary Drugs, remixes for Tony Allen and Nightmares on Wax, and unforgettable live performances. Now, Folamour charms once again with a brand new album, The Journey.

The Journey is Folamour’s third studio album and was released on his own label, FHUO. This twelve-track album symbolizes exploring his art and moments that represent his growth. Upon release of its title track, it was clear that this innovative house album would delve into disco-style synths and a bounty of live instrumentation to get everyone dancing. Folamour emerges as more than just a producer and proves himself as an elegant composer with a focus on vocals and instrumentation.

I composed this album in metropolises and no man’s land, inspired by moments that marked me, changed me, feelings that I could carry strong within me, trials and surprises.

Folamour

There’s no doubt that Folamour brings a truly unique composition with The Journey which has certainly earned its spot as one of the most unique albums of the year. While each track brings something magical to the table from Folamour, there were four that really stood out on The Journey.

The opening track, “Ono Waterfall” begins with the sound of flowing water taking the listener into a peaceful headspace from the start. The song then breaks into bountiful drums and a soothing piano progression emphasizing a serene state of mind. Folamour creates a rainforest soundscape, with an array of relaxing bass and drum riffs. These melodic synths and subtle rainfall move the listener into a dream-like state, setting an ideal image for the rest of the album.

“Rue De Paradis,” which translates to Paradise Street, features vocals from Tertia May. This romantic track evokes a feeling of nostalgia with disco synths and a groovy bassline. Tertia May’s soothing voice makes you yearn to be taken back to the ’70s with jazzy piano chords accompanied by a swanky trumpet riff.

Later on, Folamour teams up with SG Lewis for “Lost In Space,” this track radiates authentic club vibes. The funky bassline and upbeat synths are a perfect pairing for SG Lewis’s voice making anyone want to throw on some dance shoes to go out on a Saturday night. This is surely the soundtrack for unforgettable memories.

Taking the album to a close, “Just Want Happiness,” utilizes whistling synths and chorus voices for a powerful piece to end his journey. Completed with a harpsichord melody, this track uniquely creates an old-time saloon soundscape. He creates an elegantly off-beat bridge emphasizing various elements found within tracks on the rest of the album.
