Memo Rex Takes Us to the Techno Realm with a Fresh Spring Mix

Grant Gilmore
Memo Rex

San Diego-based artist Memo Rex has made some major waves in the scene and now he’s taking listeners on a trip with this exclusive mix!

Southern California has become a hotbed for house and techno over the past few years as it continues to surge in popularity and one of the artists helping drive that forward is Memo Rex. First catching our ear back in 2017, he’s been on a massive rise through the ranks ever since with releases on labels including Desert Hearts and Hood Politics while also wooing crowds with sets at Desert Hearts Festival and more.

While we may not be able to see Memo Rex play live in the flesh anytime soon, he’s been busy at work in the studio. For his next release, Ominous, that’s due out on Beatport on May 11 and other streaming platforms on May 25, he dives deep into the techno realm. Featuring nine tracks and a remix from none other than Lee Reynolds, this album is set to be a surefire smash on German label Jannowitz. Ominous also sees him stay true to his San Diego roots with artists like Dylan Andrew, xhrdn, Délos, The Wendigo, and ElezD collaborating on tunes with him.

Additionally, he’s also flexed his mixing muscle with a number of features on livestreams including Desert Hearts Digital Festival and countless others during the quarantine so far. But if you’ve missed those sets you’re in luck because he’s gifted us with a mix today you simply need to listen to if you love underground beats that’s also the perfect one to end your weekend with!

Take a listen to this stunner of a mix from Memo Rex, pre-order Ominous on Beatport or listen to the preview on SoundCloud, and let us know what you think of his sound in the comments!

Grant Gilmore

Grant Gilmore’s authoritative voice as a media professional lends credibility not common to EDM journalism. As the founder of EDM Identity he has effectively raised the bar on coverage of the past decade’s biggest youth culture phenomenon. After ten years of working for nonprofit organization Pro Player Foundation, Gilmore launched EDM Identity as a media outlet offering accurate informative coverage of the rave scene and electronic music as a whole. Although they cover comprehensive topic matter, they have taken special care in interviewing the likes of Armin van Buuren, Adventure Club, Gorgon City, Lane 8 and Afrojack. In addition to household names, they have also highlighted unsung heroes of the industry through their ID Spotlight segment. Whether he’s covering it or not, you can expect to find Grant Gilmore attending the next big electronic music event. To find out what’s next on his itinerary, follow him via the social links below.
