Otira Celebrates Rave Culture with ‘Soundboy Burnin’ EP

Otira continues his impressive year with Soundboy Burnin’, the mysterious producer’s second EP of 2019 and his first on Dim Mak.

Otira has been turning heads in the electronic music industry all year. Whether it was his Dog Blood collab, his remix of The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki’s “Warp 1.9,” or the Night is Short EP, he’s been an artist to watch in 2019. Now, Otira is back with four original tracks on the Soundboy Burnin’ EP, which captures a similar old school rave vibe as his previous releases.

Listen to the Soundboy Burnin’ EP on Spotify below, stream and listen to it on all platforms now, and keep reading for a breakdown of each song!

Stream Otira – Soundboy Burnin’ EP on Spotify:

The EP begins with the title track, which gives us an energetic drum pattern before quickly getting into some heavy 808s on the drop.

“Soundboy Burnin’” is the only track to be previously released as a single and it’s definitely one of the highlights of the EP. It really sets the tone for the rest of the album, which is full of tracks that would sound right at home in a dark and sweaty warehouse. With a style that’s reminiscent of Virtual Self, it’s no wonder that legends like Skrillex and Boys Noize want to work with Otira.

“XTC” comes next, which features synths that are straight out of a nineties rave tune. The acid-influenced drop and the hardstyle-reminiscent basslines really give this one a unique throwback vibe that blends multiple genres.

“Gunshots” and “Dread” wrap up the EP, two more unique tracks that utilize a wild sample selection and fast-paced 808s.

“Gunshots” combines aggressive snares and cymbals with perfectly places gunshot sounds, while “Dread” rounds out the EP with some of Otira’s heaviest drops yet.

Otira is definitely an artist to watch in the future. Already gaining support from some of the biggest artists and labels in the industry, it will be interesting to see what Otira cooks up for us next. After making his ADE debut earlier this week at Dim Mak’s main event, let’s hope that Otira surprises us with more music and show announcements soon.
