Turn Back the Clock to 2015 with Andy Moor & Somna's "One Thing About You"

Let’s take it back to 2015 when Andy Moor, Somna, and Amy Kirkpatrick collaborated on their massive hit “One Thing About You” to celebrate AVA Recordings’ 100th release!

Founded in 2006 by legendary progressive trance producer Andy Moor, AVA Recordings has been one of the most innovative and unique progressive, trance, and progressive trance labels out there. In 2014, Canadian trance virtuoso Somna joined Moor as co-owner and A&R of AVA. Like most labels, AVA celebrates each musical milestone it achieves and once Somna joined the ranks the two began a tradition of collaborating on each milestone track. For AVA 100, they released the alluring track “One Thing About You” featuring the dulcet vocals of Amy Kirkpatrick. The track went on to be Beatport’s #1 streamed song in 2015 and spawned numerous remixes.

So what significance does this track have and why did I choose it as the throwback Thursday this week? This week, Andy is embarking on a US mini-tour which sees him teaming up with Somna in Seattle’s revered club “The Underground” for their famous AVA Night. The following day, Andy sets out on his own to perform an extended set in San Diego’s Spin Nightclub. As I’m a huge fan of AVA, Andy, and Somna, and will be attending the San Diego show, it only felt right to focus on one of my favorite collaborations from the AVA label heads.

This is a song I have never grown tired of despite the many times I have listened to it over the years. There’s something about Andy’s signature bassline paired with the fusion of his and Somna’s progressive styles. Throughout the track there is the beautiful, delicate sound of a piano running throughout the background but when it comes into the foreground as a build-up to the chorus, it’s stunning.

Following this, the music is lowered and there’s a focus on Amy Kirkpatrick’s vocals which are so powerful. It’s the ultimate love song and whenever I hear it, I think of my husband and melt into a puddle. A pinnacle listening experience for me was hearing Andy close out his Luminosity 2018 producer set with this track which was an awe-inspiring way to close out a beautiful set on the beach. Here’s to hoping it’s played at either show, but especially in San Diego.
