Calling all the dreamers that yearn for music with depth and soul, Hydrah has just what you have been searching for with her latest EP, NOSTOS!

Why be amazing at just one thing when you can be incredible at three? With Hydrah, the talent runs deep as she hones her craft as a producer, composer, and singer, all culminating into one glorious artistic expression on the dance floor! With her boundless experience and inspiration in tow, Hydrah has developed a brand new three-track EP called NOSTOS and from the sounds of it, this package is going to be the ember that keeps us warm on these cold winter months!

Born from the idea of returning to one’s roots, NOSTOS explores the true human experience. In fact, the term “nostos” is an ancient Greek term that signifies the arrival home after a journey of introspection and personal transformation. For Hydrah, this term is near and dear to her heart as she has just recently found herself back home in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the development of her EP.

So come with me as we explore each track on NOSTOS and get ready to fall deeply in love with its sultry and stylized musical character. Stream NOSTOS EP on Spotify below or check it out on your favorite platform!

Hydrah kicks off the package with an instrumental tale that explores the harmony of nature and its effect on the music that lights up our life.

We begin with a subdued intro on “Return”, bubbling with just enough intrigue to lock me in for the duration. The track was arranged with sound samples from Minneapolis’ Boom Island Park and was composed in Hydrah’s home state of Minnesota among the quiet backdrop of the North Woods on the shores of Lake Superior.

As the violins guide my journey I close my eyes and imagine butterflies fluttering across the horizon, making their way to rest softly on my shoulder. I feel a sense of peace and longing take over my body as the track builds and flows. What I love most about this offering is that there is an essence of shadowy undertone that pulls at the heartstrings and leaves me craving to know the full story behind this brilliantly unique production.

Track two digs deep into Hydrah’s homecoming theme and honors her abilities as a trained musician and vocalist.

Returning to her roots has paid off tenfold as “Complete” sets the mood with pinpoint accuracy. One thing that I noticed right off the bat is the environmental elements that serve as a highlight for this production. It’s the fine detail of what I make out to be alienistic winged creatures of the night, offering up their voices in the background as Hydrah delivers a simple yet domineering vocal sample.

“Complete” is what I would imagine a sweet dream would look like if we were to translate it into sound. As I am transported into a world beyond my conscious comprehension I feel my heart fill with contentment. And that is what I love about this whole EP. It is not your usual dance floor banger session. Instead, it is full of heavenly soundwaves that express depth, purity, and emotional peace. For that, I am truly blown away.

For the final track, Hydrah wraps things up with a production both heavy and weightless, all at the same time.

Give me that glorious violin! On “Share Your Love“, a track inspired by today’s current political climate, it is the strings that stand out above anything else. I can feel the layers of deep rhythm as they make way for the melody to fly among the clouds, unrestrained and full of purpose. In reference to her track inspiration, once again I would love to dig into her head to get the full backstory on how she developed this piece with politics in mind.

And that is yet another reason why I am so drawn to this EP. To take events, life experiences, and personal opinion and translate it into what is mainly an instrumental package is something both astounding and fascinating in all the right ways. It’s almost like we are given a front row seat to witness the evolution of the human spirit. All the secrets, all the honesty. It is the human experience poured out for the revelers to behold. Simply magical.

Want to hear more of Hydrah’s hypnotic vocal detail? Check out OMAIR’s track “Dreamcatcher”!

It has been one year since the release of her last EP called Siren and it is safe to say that Hydrah has stepped her game up once again!

If you are a fan of music with a soul then Hydrah is an artist that you want to keep on your radar now and forevermore. Not only is she a stunning vocalist but her ear for music that reaches far outside the box is something worth celebrating.

Bonding moody auditory depth with classy orchestral detail is something that sets this woman apart from the pack and the reason that Hydrah holds a spot near and dear to my heart. In a world that can often appear saturated with cookie cutter drops and less than compelling melodies, it is musical stylings like NOSTOS that make me truly excited for the future of dance music!
