Diggin in the Carts returns with Episode 6 and features the late UK composer Ben Daglish!

Season 3 of Diggin in the Carts expands the focus from Japan to the rest of the world. This time around, host Nick Dwyer is “bringing into focus composers and sounds from the US, Europe, the UK and beyond, and the gaming systems that made a huge impact there: the Commodore 64, the Commodore Amiga, the Atari ST, the Sega Genesis, Super NES and more.” The focus will be more international in scope and focus, as internationally renowned artists share their favorite and most influential games.

Diggin in the Carts Season 3 Episode 6 features the late UK composer Ben Daglish, who is most famous for his work with the Commodore 64.

Any fan of Commodore 64 video game soundtracks is surely familiar with the legendary UK producer Ben Daglish. Though he composed for multiple systems, including the Amstrad CPC, Commodore Amiga, and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, what Daglish is more known for is his extensive work on the Commodore 64 (C64).

Notably, he’s described as “part of the first generation of UK video game composers who helped create the blueprint for the country’s video game sound, and started the ‘arms race’ of pushing the Commodore 64 SID chip to its absolute limits.” Sadly, Daglish passed away on October 1, 2018, but he certainly left behind an amazing legacy. Listen in as Dwyer speaks to the late Daglish about his experience composing for the system.

Tune in to Diggin in the Carts Season 3 Episode 6 on Red Bull Radio at 4pm PT/7pm ET:

Later in the episode, Dwyer will discuss the two French giants in the video game industry, Ubisoft and Infogrames. Additionally, musical guest Berlin-based Scottish audio-visual artist Konx-om-Pax will spend some time sharing notable game music that he finds inspirational.

The 6th episode will come to a close with a deep dive into the innovative soundtrack that was Quake. The soundtrack, headed by famed Nine Inch Nails frontman, Trent Reznor, perfectly set the creepy ambiance of the game and immersed players into the world influenced by Reznor’s background in the industrial scene.

If you’re interested in all things VGM, then Diggin in the Carts is the radio show you’ve been dreaming of! Catch the episodes every Thursday at 4 PM PDT/7PM EST on Radio Bull Radio.
