#TBT | Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)

For one of our last #TBTs of the summer, let’s take it back to 2011 with The Magician’s addicting remix of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers”!

Notorious for his summery, future house beats, one of the tracks I first fell in love with produced by The Magician was his official remix of indie pop singer-songwriter Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers“. The track builds around Lykke Li’s hypnotic lyrical hook and seamlessly integrates The Magician’s funky beats into the song, resulting in the perfect summer anthem that just gets keeps getting better with age.

As a longtime fan of Lykke Li, this remix is one of my favorites. Lykke Li and The Magician’s styles both shine brilliantly in the track and there’s certainly a reason why it’s his most streamed song on Spotify.

Even before I was that familiar with The Magician as an artist, I always gravitated toward this song and included it in almost all of my iTunes playlists growing up. Even today, whenever I hear this song come on I notice people immediately start dancing and singing along. The energy the track emanates is infectious!

Released in 2011, “I Follow Rivers” was one of The Magician’s first releases following his departure from the music group Aeroplane. It served as the perfect introduction to who he was individually as an artist and the funky beats and nu-disco elements hooked audiences immediately. It’s no surprise that today, The Magician has absolutely blown up, armed with a slew of successful releases including “Sunlight” featuring Years & Years and his single “Together”.
