Gramatik’s Re:Coil Tour Killed It At Detroit’s Royal Oak Music Theater

Gramatik’s Re:Coil Tour is the perfect combination of funky jams and surging bass – he had us grooving all night long!

Going into the night I was unsure of which direction Gramatik was going to go in on the Re:Coil tour stop – was he going to stick to his soulful slow jams or bring the place down with his tasteful yet hard-hitting dubstep? In the end, he bestowed on us a perfect mixture of his two styles, along with a ton of his beloved GRiZMATiK collaborations. The entire night featured live elements that created a wildly entertaining, multi-dimensional show start to finish.

Detroit’s Royal Oak Theater was a little less crowded than I had anticipated for Gramatik’s show, but the extra space actually made for a spectacular night with plenty of room to dance around and meet new people. The multi-level layout of the venue always perfect for prime-time viewing spots, we all had an amazing view of Gramatik slaying it on stage and his jaw-dropping backdrop of otherworldly visuals.

The night kicked off with Balkan Bump, whose unmatched talent on the trumpet accompanied a jamming set. Next up was Haywyre, who I was extremely excited to see after hearing praise of his abilities from multiple friends. He didn’t disappoint, integrating his classical piano training into his set unlike I’ve ever seen before.

Haywyre was unafraid to showcase his gift, gracing us with impressive piano solos on top of his wavy electronic beats. From future bass feels to more jazzy house sounds, Haywyre brought a wonderfully diverse set that I thoroughly enjoyed.

After a brief intermission, Gramatik finally took the stage and rocked our world.

Gigantic LED screens lit up with vibrant visuals as Gramatik came out hard with the funkiest of bass. He didn’t let down one minute, keeping us moving and grooving for the entirety of his set. We lost it when he played an insane edit of GRiZMATiK’s “Digital Liberation Is Mad Freedom,” and the ultimate jam “Good Times Roll.”

He built up the bass as the set went on, the last thirty minutes mixing in and out of heavy dubstep tracks. The hype didn’t stop, culminating in an absolutely insane rendition of his new track “Voyager Twins.” Arguably the best track on his new EP, Re:Coil Part I, it was the best possible finale for Gramatik’s impeccable show, bringing together all of the jazz, dubstep, and jams of the night into one hard-hitting track.

I couldn’t have had more fun at Gramatik’s show.

He truly impressed me with his abilities to keep the funk and good vibes flowing throughout his set! I highly recommend you check out the Re:Coil Tour when it hits your city, it’s definitely an unforgettable show you won’t want to miss!
