Meet Henry Jones in This Week’s ID Spotlight!

Drew Utterback

Meet Henry Jones in this week’s #IDSpotlight!

Name: Henry Jones
Age: 21
Hometown: Falmouth, MA
Current City: Worchester, MA
Occupation: Student

What was your first electronic music event?

My first primarily electronic music event was Electric Forest 2017, but my first festival was Coachella 2016.

What/who influenced you to attend your first event?

Two close friends and a little bit of alcohol. When I was traveling in South America, I met a chef from Baltimore who told me all about a mystical wonderland in northern Michigan called Electric Forest.

About a year later one of my friends from home mentioned that he was going to be at Electric Forest that coming summer, after doing a little research and a few drinks later, I had a ticket and the wild ride that this culture is began!

What is one moment from an event that was special and why?

Definitely walking into Sherwood Forest for the first time, that brilliant neon arch followed by the floating umbrellas, and then suddenly the world opens up to a mystical wonderland filled with, music and color.

One of the things I’m most excited for this year at Electric Forest is to see the looks on my friends’ faces when they see it for the first time

What is your favorite festival or event?

My favorite event is Electric Forest, however, Hulaween is a close second. No festival or event I have been to compares to Electric Forest. The people, the music, and the venue are all incredible, and there is a certain atmosphere that is present throughout the forest created by the sounds of the stages, the people talking, the lights and the general warmth that I have never found anywhere else in the world.

A close second is Hulaween, which manages to accomplish much of what Electric Forest does, but is still in its infancy, with a much smaller crowd and a much better camping venue, Hulaween will soon rival festivals across the country.

What is your favorite electronic song and why?

This one is really hard. It is probably “Late Night” by ODESZA, because that song has always really inspired feelings of travel and wanderlust, which are two things that I really connect with.

I had heard the song a million times before I saw the music video, and it always really connected with my road trip-loving self. When I saw the music video for the first time it really blew me away how much meaning had been conveyed to me without a single word being spoken.

Who are your favorite artists?

ODESZA is easily my favorite, however some others are Illenium, Flume, Seven Lions, Pink Floyd, Oliver Heldens, ZHU, Deadmau5.

What are your favorite genres?

House, Melodic Dubstep, Dubstep, Progressive House

What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?

I’m a bit of a rave dad; I always try to take care of those around me and make sure everybody is having a good time. Besides that I like to photograph as well as promote unique experiences at events. When brainstorming ideas, I ask myself “If I saw this happen, would I want to tell my friends about it?” If the answer is yes I do that!

I also really love to float around a crowd and meet people and talk with them, trying to meet as many people as I can. I especially love to wear a white shirt and carry sharpies around and have anybody who wants to sign it.

Music is an integral part of Drew’s life, whether it’s listening to trance or house while working or at a festival. He’s always out to discover new and exciting sounds. When video games RollerCoaster Tycoon and Unreal Tournament were the hot new games, one of his friends that he knew through the community forums introduced him to trance on Digitally Imported and he soon fell in love with trance, happy hardcore, hardstyle and other fast BPM (beats per minute) genres.
