Los Angeles’ most forward-thinking brands came together for charity with another epic edition of LA Gives Back!
Los Angeles is a main hub in the music scene. It affords many opportunities that other places strive to emulate. The community supports new and established artists within the scene and so it’s no wonder they wanted to give back. Curated by Brownies & Lemonade, Ham on Everything, Space Yacht, Echoflex, Restless Nites, and Late Night Laggers, LA Gives Back has become one of the must-attend winter events in the City of Angels.
The charity event was sold out and it definitely felt that way as people filled the space. Each room was packed at different points throughout the night, and the main room was so steamy my camera fogged up almost immediately from the body heat. The number of attendees wasn’t the most impressive part, though, instead it was that this collaborative event was able to raise $60,000 to benefit the homeless of LA.
LA Gives Back was filled with epic back to back sets with many artists you normally don’t get to see play together.
When I first walked into the main room it took a second for me to recognize who was playing. Just like last year there were no lists or lineups, we all had to rely on social media or people in the crowd to tell us who was up there.
Ducky and Wuki were on stage and kicking things off right. They opened up for Ghastly b2b Rawtek which led into Party Favor b2b Diplo b2b Valentino Khan. The last trio was one of my favorite combinations from last year’s edition of the event.
With six rooms of music, the best strategy was just to walk around and see who was playing or what sounded good to you.
Exploration is key when anything is possible and any artist could show up at any time. I wandered the venue to the other floors and found Slushii playing in a different room, close enough to touch. That was when I noticed that Robby Hauldren from Louis the Child was also present, but unfortunately because his partner in crime is only 20 he couldn’t play that night.
One set was so lit that one of the decks literally slid off the stage and was caught by myself and another front row fan.
Everyone was just having fun, whether you were in the audience or on the stage the happiness and fun was palpable. The atmosphere was so different from other club shows I’ve experienced in the past. The DJs openly reached out to the fans, grabbed their hands, sang with them, and just really went all out. It was a rare sight and what definitely makes this event one of my favorites.
Even at the end of the night the room was still packed. We waited for them to kick us out rather than leave a second before Boys Noize had finished.
Brownies & Lemonade began handing out brownies and lemon bars, letting us know that the night was close to an end. Boys Noize played some remixes of Christmas songs that had the crowd singing and dancing until the very last beat. To close out the night the MC thanked us all for our donations and for making this event a success. The lights came on and we all began the slow walk out of the venue, wishing we could stay just a little bit longer.
The second annual edition of LA Gives Back was a lot of fun for a great cause and showed us what’s possible when the music community puts their minds together.
There are few events that you will experience such an open space between artists and the audience, making it an even more intimate experience. This feel-good event is a wonderful way to finish out the year and welcome in a new one, and one you should try to attend in the future!
