#TBT || Above & Beyond – On My Way To Heaven

With #ABGT250 on the horizon, we look back at one of Above & Beyond’s most beloved tracks, “On My Way To Heaven”!

First and foremost, full disclosure that Above & Beyond have a permanent place in my heart and have seriously made my life better with their music. While I haven’t been listening to them since the very beginning, I had really tuned in fully towards the end of the Tri-State era and haven’t looked back since. When I listen to most every track from Above & Beyond it always stirs up some sort of emotion inside me, but few hit me as hard as “On My Way To Heaven”.

One of my most listened to tracks off Above & Beyond‘s second album, Group Therapy, “On My Way To Heaven” hits on so many different marks. The track is the sixth single off the album but was well received by many fans and fellow artists, with notable remixes coming from the likes of Seven Lions, Lenno, and more.

Featuring vocals from Richard Bedford, who has been the voice behind many of their most popular tunes, the lyrics made their mark on me the first time I heard them. The beat of the track is built so well around the tune and leads you on a journey as it builds up and breaks down. The whole structure itself makes the track almost theatrical in nature, which was visualized by their official music video that you can watch below.

Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford – On My Way To Heaven – Lyrics:

Rain on me
my arms are cold
I want to get home
but there’s water on the road
And if I do
you will not change
I’m just a singing satellite

and another dirty strange.

I want to laugh
I want to smile

Get your arms inside my head
and stop me thinking for a while
I’m just a fool
I’m gonna sting
But since you put these thorns around my head
You know I am the king

The king
The king of everything and nothing
I’m on my way to heaven

I’m always here
I’m in denial
When there’s nothing left between us
I will stay another while
You know you’re free
You’ve got your wings
And I am just another angel
With a voice who wants to sing
Yeah, yeah, yeah
All mighty
I’m on my way to heaven
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I’m on my way to heaven

I want to cry
I want to steal
A little ray of perfect sunshine
From the sun above your head
I want to laugh
I want to smile
Get your arms inside my head
Stop me thinking through our love
I’m just a fool
Oh I’m gonna sting
But since you put these thorns around my head
You know I am the king
The king
The king of everything and nothing
I’m on my way to heaven
