What led you to start your career as a DJ, and how did you decide on the name Axion?
I have always had a desire to learn how to create music since I was in grade school, it has always interested me and when I first started on an iPad I knew it was something I wanted to pursue.
Who are some of your influences as an artist?
One of my biggest influences has to be Bijou. I have been watching him grow from local to national in and out of Arizona which gives me the inspiration to follow my dream.
You recently released “Club Go Up” which is a seriously infectious mash-up. Where did the inspiration come from for the house track?
The biggest inspiration from that track was the vocals. I love the original song “Rinse n Repeat” it’s still too this day one of my favorite tracks.
Drip Drop Records is your home for releases. What has it been like working with their label and team?
It’s been amazing and probably the best point of my career. It’s literally all just a group of friends who just create music and help each other out. They’ve definitely become some of my closest friends and family.
Can you describe the Arizona Scene and how it compares to different places you’ve played outside the state?
Arizona is blowing up in my opinion. The scene is growing so much day-by-day. I’ve played every major city in Arizona and Avalon Hollywood in California so far, and Arizona is definitely my favorite place to play overall.
Where is a dream venue you aspire to play in the future?
My dream venue to play at without a doubt would be Omnia in Las Vegas. I remember the first year I went to Electric Daisy Carnival, a group of friends and I walked past the venue, I heard Ghastly going off and we stood outside and just listened and since then I’ve always wanted to play there.
Over the past five years, what has been your biggest struggle as an artist?
My biggest struggle has definitely been finding my own sound in my music and being able to make that stand out from the rest, which I have finally found a good combination of deep heavy bass lines and groovy percussion; best way I can describe it would be a combination of techno, G house, & deep house.
If you had to pick three artists to listen to for the rest of your life, who would they be and why?
Sublime for sure because you can’t help but just jam out every time they come on I grew up listening to them and will forever. Daft Punk for sure because, well come on they’re great. Rebelution because they’re just an amazing band, I love reggae and every time I listen to them it just puts me in a good mood.
Are there any upcoming shows or releases that fans can get hyped for?
The next show that I’m playing is called Pitch A Tent on July 15, 2017, definitely check that one out. I will also be spinning at the 5k Color Fun Run in San Diego later in the year on November 11 too for all you SoCal fans!
Finally, what are your favorite pizza toppings?
Gotta be pepperoni, can never go wrong with pepperoni pizza. Although sometimes some green peppers if I’m feeling risky.
