World’s longest-running electronic music, culture and arts festival has cancelled 2017 USA edition

UPDATE: Following several independently confirmed reports at the end of this week, Mysteryland USA has officially announced the cancellation of its 2017 edition. Fans who already purchased tickets can expect to automatically receive full refunds within the next 3-5 business days.

The official announcement reads as follows:

Dear Nomads,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mysteryland USA will no longer take place in 2017.

Since 2014, we have strived to produce the best possible experience for our festival attendees, and are truly humbled by all of the love and support that you, the artists, the beautiful venue of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and the Town of Bethel have shown us as we celebrated life through music, culture and art.

Paylogic has started the refund process. Full refunds will be issued automatically to the bank account used to pay for the order within the next 3-5 business days. Paylogic will send all ticket buyers an update with more details about the refund process. The refunds will be processed automatically. No further action is required from your side.

After EDM Identity received a tip from a reliable industry source this week about the cancellation of Mysteryland USA 2017, Dancing Astronaut is now reporting they have confirmed via a source within Mysteryland that the festival will not happen this year. Full details will be updated in this story when the official announcement gets released. No doubt, this is a disappointing turn of events for fans hoping to attend this year.

In response to enduring speculation and rumor mongering, Dancing Astronaut has reached out to a source from inside the festival, who–speaking on the condition of anonymity–confirmed that Mysteryland has been cancelled for 2017. The festival is to make an official announcement sometime this weekend, but is unlikely to reveal the cause of cancellation.

Mysteryland held its first USA edition back in 2014 on the legendary grounds of Woodstock in Bethel Woods, New York. The festival separated itself from an increasingly saturated market by providing multi-sensory experiences built upon the pillars of music, culture, art, and sustainability. Past editions of Mysteryland USA included a speaker series where Moby discussed music therapy from the perspective of his personal experience and on a clinical level. In 2016, the festival impressed us with its expansion into a curated comedy stage increasing attendees’ entertainment options beyond electronic music. Previous years of Mysteryland USA were praised for including house, techno, hardstyle and trance, representing a majority of the electronic scene.

We are sad to see Mysteryland USA cancelled because our staff believed the festival initially provided a unique experience compared to other events. After a mixed response from fans on the 2017 lineup release, the decision to appeal to a wider audience by choosing performers outside of their initial vision appears not to have paid off. One has to wonder if music festivals should take more consideration into alienating their dedicated fans before shifting in a different direction.
