It’s that time of year again! The leprechauns are watching their gold and USC Events hosts their Spring festival, Lucky 2017!
If this is your first time at the magical event that is Lucky then prepare yourself for a night full of bass and bright colors. USC Events prides itself on its ability to create a fully immersive world complete with acrobats, dancers, and a lively stage presence. The result speaks for itself and that is why I am already getting hyped for this years’ festival. This year it is being held at the Tacoma Dome, south of Seattle. I put together this list of my top picks from the lineup at this year’s Lucky Festival.
Take a peep at the full lineup HERE!
Quinn’s Top Picks at Lucky 2017:
Buku

I might be biased because I have waited for years to see Buku live, but this guy throws down hard and there is no way I am missing his set. Buku has released tracks on OWSLA’s sub-label, NEST HQ, and Fool’s Gold. These memorable tracks have given Buku a name in the industry and his numerous festival bookings for this season show this. Merging Trap and Dubstep with hints of Moombahton, Buku’s set is sure to be full of jungle-sounding drums and crazy synths, so don’t miss out!

TJR

Get ready to bounce with house DJ, TJR. Hailing from an older era, TJR keeps it real with live scratching and beatmashing. Since 2008, he has hit the #1 spot on Beatport multiple times and has an impressive discography. While experimenting with his own styles, I feel that TJR has always stayed true to House music essentials. If you want to bounce the night away, then catch TJR at Lucky Festival 2017.

UZ

Who is UZ? By now you’ve probably heard the name being bounced around. This mysterious DJ has found his way to the top of the Trap charts with a bass-heavy producing style and a killer live show. His releases on Fool’s Gold, Mad Decent, and Boysnoize Records have blown up his career over the past year. Although he usually sticks to no-nonsense Trap music, his latest release, ‘You Never Know’, is surprisingly mellow and features passionate male vocals. Not usually UZ’s style, but I don’t think his live show will be any different. I’ve personally never seen him live, but I have heard many testimonies to his skill on the tables. I am expecting a heavy show and that my neck will be sore the next day.

NGHTMRE

One of the heaviest hitters on the scene right now, NGHTMRE will no doubt bring the heat at Lucky 2017. He just released an insane flip of Travis Scott’s 2016 hit, ‘Goosebumps’ which is going to be a treat to hear live. Over the last few years, NGHTMRE has made a name for himself in the bass community with countless hit remixes and powerful originals. His work includes collaborations with other established producers such as Slander, LOUDPVCK, and Zeds Dead. It seems his new tour will be kicking off at Lucky Festival. Let’s hope he comes out swinging and delivers a wild set.

Liquid Stranger

Liquid Stranger was one of the first dubstep artists I discovered back in 2011. He was one of the big three along with Excision and Datsik. I remember being obsessed with his ability to seamlessly blend organic sounding samples into these crazy alien-sounding bass melodies. He has come a long way since then, yet he has still maintained his signature style and stayed true to his dub roots. His many tours have taken him around the globe including Beyond Wonderland, Paradiso Festival, and Shambhala. Just last year he launched his own record label called Wakaan. This label gives artists the freedom to experiment and thrive without constraints. I’ve seen him at numerous USC festivals and have been impressed every time. I’m confident that this weekend will be no different for those of you who want to keep it old school.
