It is a trio made in the stars made evident by an exhilarating and heartfelt new Anjunabeats track set to take the upcoming festival season by storm!
This track, of course, is a collaboration from two of the scene’s most innovative artists to date. Seven Lions joins forces with Anjunabeats young gun Jason Ross and the result is “Higher Love,” featuring the vocal talents of MUTEMATH’s Paul Meany. It’s a little bit of bass with a beautiful blend of progressive trance flair. The strong and hypnotic vocals of Paul Meany is simply the cherry on top.
But how did all of this talent come together to create such a great piece of dance floor genius? After originally connecting for a remix of Seven Lion’s smash “Creation”, which landed itself on the ‘Anjunabeats Worldwide 06’ Compilation, Jeff Montalvo aka Seven Lions and Jason Ross quickly realized the relationship could grow further and a hit collaboration quickly took form. Soon after they got in touch with Paul Meany from American alternative rock band MUTEMATH, a veteran talent with a keen indie sensibility who was immediately drawn to the tune. The rest is dance floor history.

“This collab with Jason was probably one of the quickest and smoothest collabs I’ve ever worked on,” said Jeff. “It started out with a really simple piano melody that you hear in the middle and then we just started building on it over a few weeks. All through email but we would be working on it at the same time and constantly sending updates. I think it was a really fun collab. We are really excited about how it turned out.”
– Jeff Montalvo (Seven Lions)
“It was amazing to see how quickly the rest of track took shape, working with Jeff was a breeze and felt completely natural. We really trusted each-other’s creative sense and just built on idea after idea. We knew at the start that we wanted a powerful track that displayed both of our styles, and we think we did just that.”
– Jason Ross
“There are certain tracks that just pull melodies and lyrics right out of you whether you’re ready or not, Seven Lions and Jason dialed this one in perfectly for where I love to go as a singer. I’m so honored to be a part of this song.”
– Paul Meany
The Anjunabeats Connection:
Seven Lions first hit the scene back in 2012 after winning a Beatport remix contest with his dubstep-focused version of Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go”. He quickly garnered early support from Skrillex and his OWSLA label and in 2013, tour dates with Porter Robinson and Krewella pushed Seven Lions and his wildly unique and genre-bending production style to the forefront of the modern electronic music scene. Along his journey Seven Lions became the responsible party for many of the best reworks in the Anjunabeats catalog not only with Above & Beyond’s “You Got To Go” but also with Velvetine’s “The Great Divide” and Oceanlab’s “Satellite”.

On the flip side, early 2014 saw Jason Ross’s true beginning when “Burma” was released, landing him squarely on the radar of the Anjunabeats A&R team as well as grabbing the attention of Above & Beyond, who played the track in their weekly Group Therapy Radio show (ABGT). The next week, listeners of ABGT voted “Burma” to be played again as Record of the Week, and then again for the following week’s show. Jason signed to Anjunabeats soon after. Since signing, Jason Ross has gained some serious steam and has become an integral piece of the Anjunabeats roster, even being named by Above & Beyond as their breakout artist of the year back in 2014!
With Anjunabeats backing these incredibly talented artists and a chance partnership with the alternative rock band songbird, Paul Meany, “Higher Love” was a track just waiting to be dreamed up. With this new track in tow, I can also announce that Seven Lions will be embarking on a new tour, primed and ready to take his fans on a genre-bending journey, celebrating music in all of its glory.
