Disclosure’s Latch catapulted both Disclosure and singer, Sam Smith’s, career to the next level single-handlely.
In 2012, the song Latch by Disclosure and singer Sam Smith was released. Before this no one had heard of Disclosure or Sam Smith. Completely new to the scene, they shocked charts across the globe. The song debuted at number 26 within the UK Singles Chart. From there, it actually took two additional years for Latch to gain radio play in the United States. The song was released as Disclosure’s debut single in February 2014. Throughout the year it climbed the charts and remained an immensely popular song. It went 3x Platinum in the US alone and really skyrocketed both Disclosure and Sam Smith’s career.
At first glance, it may have seemed like Disclosure and Sam Smith were “one-hit wonders,” however upon further reviewal. Both artists really began to thrive as talented parties and start doing things on their own.
It was really hard to go anywhere in 2014 without hearing Latch – it was always on the radio. I was first being introduced into dance music during this time and I remember seeing Disclosure during Hard Summer 2014, my first dance music festival. We were so excited to see them and hoped they brought out Sam Smith. Unfortunately the latter did not happen, but they still brought an incredible set and played out just about their entire Settle album. Definitely a memory I will never forget.
