Earlier this week, Mat Zo unveiled “Soul Food” for our listening pleasure. The track is the first single from his forthcoming album, Self Assemble, which is slated to be released on March 25th via Mad Zoo. The track premiered on Beats1 by Zane Lowe on February 3rd, and became available for streaming and as a free download a day later. Self Assemble is Mat Zo’s follow up to Damage Control, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2014. That album peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Dance charts and made number 1 on their Heatseeker Albums Chart in 2013.
Mat Zo has become a master at creating the perfect blend between electro-funk, 70’s disco, 90’s pop, and trance. This genre-bending artist endlessly blurs boundaries to create masterpieces that leave listeners desiring more of his work. Self Assemble was created from Mat Zo’s initial goals in writing a film soundtrack and you will be able to notice his unique sound in this new album. Recently, he has been focused on his newly launched record label Mad Zoo, and performing live at venues ranging from Madison Square Garden to global festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival. The release from this upcoming album, “Soul Food” pays homage to legendary artists Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers. Can you hear the influence in the track?
