Watch It Wednesday: Pop Danthology 2015 Parts 1 and 2

Grant Gilmore

Daniel Kim is back at it again! This master of the mashup has taken the best tracks from 2015 and squeezed them into a great two part comprehensive series for your listening pleasure. We have been following Daniel and his Pop Danthology releases for four years now and are super excited to share this years’ mashup with you!

This year Daniel released two at the same time, along with a statement as to why he did this:

Since 2010, I have been making music mashups of the top songs of the year. My Pop Danthology 2012 went viral all over the world, reaching 10 million views in just three days (the original YouTube video currently stands at more than 70 million views). Every year now my Danthologies go viral.

For the first time, I am releasing two Danthologies at once. With music from all over the world becoming more and more accessible, it has become increasingly more challenging to satisfy my fans and fit in all of their many favourite songs in my year-end mashup. I found myself cutting down so much of the original musical pieces just to “jam” in as many songs as I could. Not only was the work process not as enjoyable this way but the resulting sound was more choppy. Although making two Danthologies took a lot more time (watch this video to see the breakdown of the time I put into the making of one Danthology), I enjoyed the work much more and I feel like each Danthology has much better flow than Danthologies from previous years.

Another thing that people may notice about this year’s Danthologies is that the mashups uploaded onto YouTube are missing some songs (full versions are available on my facebook and soundcloud). I did this with select songs only as an attempt to lower the chances of my mashups getting blocked in different countries around the world – I want all of you to be able to enjoy Pop Danthology 2015.

We hope that you enjoy this as much as we did! Take a look below for the videos for each part, as well as the SoundCloud stream and follow this link for more info and tracklists!

Grant Gilmore

Grant Gilmore’s authoritative voice as a media professional lends credibility not common to EDM journalism. As the founder of EDM Identity he has effectively raised the bar on coverage of the past decade’s biggest youth culture phenomenon. After ten years of working for nonprofit organization Pro Player Foundation, Gilmore launched EDM Identity as a media outlet offering accurate informative coverage of the rave scene and electronic music as a whole. Although they cover comprehensive topic matter, they have taken special care in interviewing the likes of Armin van Buuren, Adventure Club, Gorgon City, Lane 8 and Afrojack. In addition to household names, they have also highlighted unsung heroes of the industry through their ID Spotlight segment. Whether he’s covering it or not, you can expect to find Grant Gilmore attending the next big electronic music event. To find out what’s next on his itinerary, follow him via the social links below.
