After a vote by the Miami City Commission of Planning and Zoning today, the 2019 edition of Ultra Miami will not be happening at Bayfront Park.

Updated 9/27 at 5pm PT: Ultra Music Festival has released an official statement on Facebook regarding the decision made by the Miami City Commission of Planning and Zoning. In the statement, they have clarified that this is not the end of Ultra in Miami and that they are still planning on celebrating 21 years over the weekend of March 29-31, 2019. Read the full statement below and stay tuned as more information surfaces.

Since the third year of the festival’s existence, Ultra Music Festival has called Miami’s Bayfront Park its home. Thousands of electronic music enthusiasts from around the globe have flocked to the venue and soaked in iconic performances from artists like Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Justice, and more. This year Ultra capped off their celebration of 20 years in style with a Swedish House Mafia reunion that many had been wishing for as well.

Over the past few years though, Miami’s nightlife scene has faced closures and scrutiny as a change in attitude from the surrounding community became more evident. This made the future uncertain for the festival to continue at its longstanding home, and today they received a devastating blow from the city.

Just hours ago, the Miami City Commission of Planning and Zoning voted unanimously against the contract that would have kept Ultra Miami at Bayfront Park in 2019, effectively forcing them out of the venue and on the hunt for a new location. What this means for the future of Ultra Music Festival remains uncertain, but stay tuned as this story continues to develop.

We’ve reached out to Ultra Music Festival for comment on this decision.
