What was your first electronic music event and who influenced you to attend?
In October of 2012, right after graduating high school, and first thing into my first year of college. My girlfriend of two years broke up with me, and my friend invited me to Zomboy. That was the start of everything. That friend and I became best friends and basically brothers. Plus I met Zomboy! Ironically, I ended up DJing on the same bill with him a couple years later at that exact venue.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
My favorite moment was a few years back before Jauz was a huge name. He was brought to St. Louis by a promoter friend of mine. I opened up the night as doors opened, mind you, they opened late, so my set time was extremely short lasted.
Skip ahead, Jauz plays, and the guy after him is wasted – gets kicked out of the venue. They needed someone to play before the main slot, Genetix. I had my CDJ playing material in hand and offered my tunes. My friend running the show gave me the opportunity. One of the best nights of my life.
What is your favorite festival or event?
I’m a long time Electric Forest attender. I’ve never experienced such a great time of diverse people and music throughout the weekends I’ve attended. Some of the closest moments with friends have been at this festival. It’s a big goal to be able to play there someday.
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
The “Blue Skies” remix by Flux Pavillion has always given me the feels of nostalgia. The summer I had that song on repeat was the most exciting summer of my life possibly ever. Traveling around the country going to music festivals and spending long nights with close friends.
Who are your favorite artists?
Porter Robinson has been one of my biggest inspirations showing me that it’s okay to change your style. There’s been no other artist that has spoken to me like that.
What are your favorite genres?
Not necessarily a genre, but I’ve been obsessed with music that has snippets of future bass feel, giant melodic supersaw sound walls, and a half-time dubstep drum beat. Vancil is a good contender for this.
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I’ve gone through quite a few identities. I’ve been producing since late 2009, but I’ve also worked in the industry under multiple production companies. My place at this time consists of putting my sound into your ears.
