The City of Plano terminated their contract with Starfest Music Festival today, less than three weeks ahead of the planned event.
Documents obtained by the Dallas Observer reveal the city cut ties with Starfest Music Festival after organizers breached their license agreement. The festival failed to comply with the city on mutually agreeing on headliners at least 48 hours before announcing them to the public. The City believes canceling Starfest’s agreement is “in the best interest of the City and our community.”
Current ticket holders have until August 21 to request a refund from organizers by emailing [email protected]. We recommend contacting your credit card company to inform them of the situation and potentially start the chargeback process.
Starfest Music Festival has responded to potential attendees with a statement on their website:
“We are aware that the Starfest Music Festival has caused some speculation because it’s based on the element of surprise. Although we’ve chosen an unconventional route for the festival doesn’t mean we haven’t taken the necessary precautions to guarantee a successful event for all attendees. Our goal from the beginning was to bring a unforgettable experience to the people of North Texas, and we’ve been working diligently to ensure this goal is met. We stand behind the Starfest Music Festival and will continue moving forward as planned…just at a new home.”
The future of the festival remains uncertain. Event organizers say that a new location will be announced in the coming days. In addition, Cadillac, once listed as a sponsor of the festival, is no longer listed on their website.
Make sure to follow the Starfest Music Festival Watch Party on Facebook to experience the trainwreck with others if the festival actually takes place.
Other notable information obtained from documents today include Flo Rida’s contracted performance of 4 songs, and Lil Wayne’s hospitality-dressing room requirements. Lil Wayne did in fact tweet out he would be performing at Starfest, so only time will tell if he’ll actually ever be taking the stage at the festival.
