Metrik’s newest album, Awake, elevates his expressive voice and vulnerable lyricism over a dynamic and cinematic drum and bass backdrop.
London-based producer and vocalist Metrik has long been one of drum and bass’ most recognizable figures because of his polished and forward-thinking production, cinematic songwriting, and unique vocals. Today, he released his fourth studio album, Awake, via Hospitality Records. The album is a 12-track odyssey five years in the making, and is emblematic of what Metrik does best: making music that feels both deeply personal and introspective, yet ferociously energetic and built for dance floors.
This album came out of a really tough time in my life, with songs that carry very personal meanings – from battles with ADHD and going through grief to finding hope again in difficult moments. I wanted to be more raw and honest with the music, push myself vocally, and hopefully create something people can connect with on a deeper level

His soft and warm vocals are a distinctive element of his sound, guiding listeners on a sonic journey through his inner world. The only other vocals that appear on the album are from Rou Reynolds, the lead singer of the British rock band Enter Shikari, on “Hole.”
What makes “Hole” so impactful is the way it pairs Metrik’s smoother, more melodic singing with Reynolds’ raw, scream-like voice. He carries the calmer moments of the track as he sings about losing his grip and slipping into a dark, emotional hole, while Reynolds cuts through with a sense of urgency while delivering lines that feel like a rallying cry to fight your way back out.
That back-and-forth mirrors the lyrics’ core tension between falling down and forcing yourself up again. Set against a collision of drum and bass and metal, the contrast in their voices amplifies the song’s intensity. When Reynolds screams “bang your fist on your chest / your destiny is calling” right before the explosive drop hits, it makes its message land with even more force.
Aside from “Hole,” only three other tracks feature other artists. Metrik joins forces with ÆON:MODE on the title track, which also opens the album. Metrik delivers the verses with a gentle, drifting tone, mirroring the lyrics’ sense of going through life in a daze before finally feeling awake. His voice floats over a soft, airy buildup that sets the stage for a shift. When he reaches the refrain “now I’m finally awake,” the production snaps into focus with a heavy drop that feels intentional, as if it’s the sonic embodiment of waking up and seeing everything with new clarity.
Fellow DnB producer Grafix also appears on two tracks: “Overdrive,” which was released as a single back in 2021, and “Waves,” the closing song released alongside the entire album. Metrik and Grafix have been releasing music together for years, from “Parallel” on his 2020 album Ex Machina to “Skyline” in 2022 and “Tension” in 2017. They have also gone back-to-back at festivals like Rampage and EDC Las Vegas.
Both producers are powerhouses in their own right, and when they come together, drum and bass magic is made. Their shared approach to melodic, high-octane drum and bass makes their collaborations feel instantly cohesive and memorable.
The solo tracks are some of the album’s strongest moments, giving Metrik the space to flex his command of drum and bass. “Synchronise” moves from a gentle acoustic opening into sweeping melodic peaks, while “Disconnection” pushes into darker territory with bold synth work, and “Simulation” is engineered with razor-sharp precision.
Metrik is a multitalented musician, and he taps into the full range of his artistry with Awake. Listen to the album on your preferred streaming platform, and follow Metrik on Instagram to see what he’s up to next.
