Circus Recordings label boss Yousef returns to his imprint with I Operate In Purple, an album that celebrates his 30-year run in the music industry.

It’s difficult to discuss impactful members of the dance music community without bringing Yousef up in the conversation. Over the past three decades, he’s done everything from releasing music on labels like Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels, Defected, and more to performing at some of the finest clubs and festivals on the planet. He’s also the mastermind behind Circus Recordings, an esteemed label that has helped shape the house music landscape by hosting numerous tracks from notable artists.

That home is where Yousef returned to drop off I Operate In Purple, a stunning 15-track album that encompasses everything there is to love about his innovative, dance-forward style. The album, his fifth, arrives after a string of other fantastic projects, including 2009’s A Collection Of Scars And Situations, 2012’s A Product Of Your Environment, 2015’s Process Of Eight, and 2019’s 9 Moor Drive. Yet this one acts as a proper party for the legendary artist, who said it “stands as a heartfelt thank you – a celebration of the journey, the community, and the music that shaped me.”

Yousef’s love for house music oozes through every track on the album, each of which deserves a listen. Some of the standout moments throughout include the collaborations, such as “Intuition” with BabyGirl, which features an infectious groove that plays off the sultry vocals, or “I Feel Good” with Alexx, which drops in a flourish of classic house and uplifting vocals, making you want to sing along. Others, like “Lets Live” with Unknown and “Then” with Perri, are geared more toward those deep dancefloor moments where you find yourself spinning, unaware of what time it actually is.

Those looking for a dose of pure house energy shouldn’t sleep on “Nothing but Love,” with its drums, disco strings, and distant vocals, and the album’s title track, which features punchy percussion, piano keys, and horns for flair. As an added bonus, Yousef included Calvin Harris‘ radio version of “Higher Place,” a perfect way to close out the album with a proper track that is sure to ignite dancefloors.

Give I Operate In Purple a spin on Spotify or your preferred platform, and follow Yousef on social media to stay in the know on his future shows and releases.
