Australian artist PhaseOne delivers his signature blend of high-octane bass, metal-influenced elements, and more on his sophomore album TERRANOVA.

The crossover between dubstep and metal has grown over the past decade, and that’s due, in part, to PhaseOne. This Australian DJ, producer, and guitarist has made a name for himself over the years with his signature sound that features elements from the two genres. As a DJ, he brings unmatched energy to the stage at festivals and clubs worldwide, rooted in his top-notch releases. Now, PhaseOne has dropped his latest body of work, TERRANOVA, for fans to feast their ears on.

The creation of TERRANOVA began in the wake of PhaseOne’s breakout debut album, TRANSCENDENCY, which was released in 2019. Yet it isn’t your standard, run-of-the-mill album; it sees him take the next step in his artistic journey. “It took over a year to complete, with personal challenges and creative hurdles along the way, but I’m incredibly proud of the result,” PhaseOne shared. “It’s more melodic than I expected, but still unmistakably a PhaseOne record.”

That next step forward for PhaseOne is seen throughout TERRANOVA as he crafts a conceptual world of destruction and renewal. Previously released singles—”SOS” with Make Them Suffer, “PULSE” with Banks Arcade, and “DIVIDE” with Micah Martin and Intervals—set the tone for the album. Inside each track were soundscapes dripping with PhaseOne’s influences from the realms of rock and metal, smashed together into his signature twist on dubstep.

As for the new tracks, you can’t help but fall under PhaseOne’s spell from the jump. The title track features an eerie intro that drives straight into a relentless onslaught of distortion and bass before dropping into pure madness. Another standout arrives soon after as Flowidus and Dread MC join PhaseOne for “RESET.” This drum and bass tune features wicked vocals and a beat that will punch you straight in the face.

Tracks like “BEYOND” and “LULLABY” with HVDES show off the flourishes of melodic moments that PhaseOne brings to his productions, while “RUINS” is sure to melt your mind as it’s pummeled with heavy drops. Flipping the script entirely is the closing tune “SHADOWS,” which brings Scro into the mix for a moment where screamo takes the spotlight before distorted drops are delivered as a finishing blow. Beatport lists this one as a “house” tune, but it’s hilariously so far from that.

Give TERRANOVA a listen on Spotify or your preferred platform, and stay tuned for more from PhaseOne by following his social media channels.
