Puerto Rican producer Cali Lanauze merges his Caribbean roots with deep, sentimental grooves in his latest three-tracker, the Borderline EP.
Born in San Juan, Cali Lanauze is a rising solo phenomenon in his own right. He spent the last few years mastering his sound with exceptional dedication. Often experimental with dark and immersive grooves, Cali’s music has largely defied the conventional sounds far beyond the tropical rhythms for which his island is known. Since he dropped his first track at the age of 15, the talented producer has caught the attention of industry heavyweights like Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Radio Slave, and Davide Squillace.
As he continues to draw from his Caribbean heritage and underground influences, Cali’s fearless approach to modern styles has truly set him apart. His latest debut on Damian Lazarus‘ Crosstown Rebels, the Borderline EP marks a significant milestone as he positions himself as one of the most exciting artists to emerge from Puerto Rico in recent memory.
With this release, I really wanted to showcase the variety of sounds I can bring to the table. I sent some sketches to Damian, and he made the connection with the amazing Cari Golden to build what is ‘Borderline’, a melancholic cut with positive lyrics. With ‘Temple of Confessions’ & ‘Talk To My People’, I wanted to bring a deep, trippy, groovy cut inspired by Hï Ibiza’s Club Room, aka The Temple, where Damian holds his residency that inspired me. Maintaining my mottos: deep, groovy & sentimental in some kind of way.

The three-track package kicks off with the title track “Borderline,” a collaboration with LA-based singer-songwriter Cari Golden. Exuding a bittersweet energy, the melody carries a melancholic yet wistful tone. Listeners are offered a chance to journey through an emotional depth and celebrate the brighter days ahead as the tune continues to be wrapped in a groove that keeps you moving.
Switching things up, “Temple of Confessions” is a solo standout that pulses with a trippy rhythm. The deep, hypnotic beats — inspired by the captivating energy of Hï Ibiza’s Club Room — take you to an otherworldly time and space. Then, Cali brings the EP to a close with “Talk To My People.” This anthem of his creative exploration expertly blends a mix of dark and moody textures in a way that truly speaks to your body and mind.
