Ferry Corsten Continues Sonic Evolution with 'Connect'

**Ferry Corsten dips his toes into genres from progressive house and trance to breaks and dance-pop on his latest album, Connect.**

Legendary trance artist Ferry Corsten has a legacy that precedes itself. This beloved DJ and producer has seemingly done everything under the sun, from crafting stunning tunes in the studio and playing sets on some of the world’s largest stages to guest hosting A State Of Trance and fostering talent on his Flashover Recordings imprint. Yet during this time Ferry Corsten has never stagnated, he’s continued to evolve – and he’s done some once again on his latest album, Connect.

The soundscapes found on Connect are diverse, which is fitting for Ferry Corsten who has spent decades dipping his toes into different genres within the scene. “While I may be best known for trance, I’ve explored a range of genres over the years—house, progressive, even techno,” he shared. “This album is a culmination of those styles, woven together across tracks in dynamic layers and moments. If you’ve followed my music, I hope you’ll recognize these influences and hear the depth and variety within this sound.”

That assessment from Ferry Corsten isn’t wrong by any means, as throughout the 15 tracks on Connect you’ll hear him offer nostalgic moments that stir emotions, create energetic grooves that force your body to move, and so much more. Added into the mix for a futuristic twist are AI-generated vocals on tracks like “Mind Trip” and “Connect” to show off the innovation that he brings to his productions even further.

A hearty helping of Connect puts collaboration at the forefront. “Back To Life” with Tom Westy, “Remember” with SUPERSTRINGS, and “Fulfillment” with Marsh all help show off different sides of Ferry Corsten. You’ll find yourself enamored with the floating progressive house vibes in some moments while energized to your core with trance grooves in others.

“Chaos,” his collaboration with Silva City (Alan Fitzpatrick & Reset Robot), also exudes this with clash of trance and techno that you can’t help but listen to again and again. Meanwhile, “Belong To You” sees Ferry Corsten work with 22 Bullets and Couche to create a track that seemed to have the mainstage in mind with its soaring vocals and larger-than-life build that you can’t help but imagine fireworks going off to.

Chris Howard’s two features on Connect also stand tall. “Where The Mountains Grow” is a soft, vibey tune that’s perfect for those rainy days that have sprung up throughout the fall season, while “Total Eclipse” offers light breaks to create a warm, cozy atmosphere you’ll quickly fall for before it swells with synth-laden energy.

Ferry’s solo tunes on Connect pack just as much of a punch. The aforementioned title track and “Mind Trip” bring a futuristic feel to the album, while he shows off stripped-back, airiness on “Wish,” dancefloor-ready house sounds on “Yes Man,” and nostalgia-inducing breaks on “Just Breathe.”

While many might feel that the scene’s love for blurring genre lines in the current era is a novel concept, Ferry Corsten is here to tell you it’s anything but. He and many other artists have roots in the early era of the scene where sonic confines mattered less and creating a vibe on the dancefloor mattered so much more. Connect is a culmination of all those influences from past decades, and it’s an album you should definitely give a spin.
